Sad to see you go, but I find it disappointing that having your privilege to post in the Current Events forum has lead you to the conclusion that you should no longer participate in this forum. I find it weak to tell you the truth. I don't participate in the Current Events forum, and I could even tell that what you were doing there was disruptive, and even got warned countless times to stop with that behavior and you kept at it.

So, I don't see what the problem is here. You broke rules that were in place, got warned extensively that you were doing so and the consequences of it, and you have to own up to them. But if you'd rather just go elsewhere as if you'd been wronged here, then that's your choice.

Your overreaction at this very moment to getting your privilege to participate in the Current Events forum are precisely why that forum has the type of rules it has and the strictness it has.

Sorry you can't see it that way, but it really annoys the heck out of me when people are given plenty of chances, and just do a bit of a "rage exit" when they're disciplined despite those warnings. Hey, if you don't like the decision against you, I'd rather you'd just went away quietly. No need for the needless drama that for one reason or another you brought upon yourself.

Edit: Sorry if this post might seem a bit harsh. But Jack Bauer just got cancelled.

I thought Brick knew basketball quite well and I often agreed with him on players ability, game critique...etc....

I wouldn't want to ride across country with him as he sounds more negative than me and I think we would soon end up in a fist fight - may be that would clear the air. who knows

This is a CELTICS BLOG about the Celtics!!! and if you let some political forum run you off because you got temporarily scolded and then claim "censorship" then I say "Don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out.

Brick may be the best guy in the world for all I know....it matters not in the whole scheme of things....

for this site what matter is this: There is a game tomorrow against the Spurs and I look forward to reading the Blog about the Celtics by all the writers and by the posters...both before and after the game. Then we have the playoffs and I always love to be a part of the chat during the playoffs as it always lots of fun with really good people. That is what this site is supposed to be about.

If you want to make this place your "bully pulpit", or your stage to spew out your political or religious views to the point you become irate  and/or you use it as your primary, or even secondary source to talk non Celtic stuff....then I personally think you have some issues to work thru.....

Again I think Brick knows basketball and know the Celtics but this ain't a political site - read the name.

Peace Brick ....may the Caribbean wind alway fill you sails with good fortune and good health

I've noticed this a few times now when someone puts up an I'm leaving thread - generally the other posters try to convince the person to reconsider, stay, come back (and sometimes they thankfully do) yet often times the mods say happy trails, come back if you want (not, please reconsider your leaving) it's subtle, but I'm wondering if it's part of policy or more just a personal feeling
Some people have a hard time saying "we'd really love to keep you here". You gotta respect that. Not that I'm saying you don't, but I just think it might be part of being a moderator for some; taking impartiality to the extreme maybe?

Anyway, you got a point, I just think it's a human thing.

Maybe look into it, mods :p

Can we establish a rule against threads like this?  They never really have a positive effect on the blog or community.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Negativity is a part of life. Let's not boot it out altogether. That'd be rather uncivilized and quite dictator-like imo.

Seriously guys, you want threads like this out in the open, imo. Not on other forums, blogs or in PMs.

I actually like knowing why someone fell off the face of the earth.

If you don't want to read them, just don't click on the topics with a "good bye" title.

OK, the actual saying goodbye part isn't so bad, it's the slippery slope they inevitably end up sliding down that's more problematic.

Maybe have an all purpose goodbye thread where someone can say their "last words".  The thread would be locked, unless a member asked to say goodbye, where it could be briefly unlocked so they w=could say their peace, then locked again.

It would be like a Hall of Goodbyes.

Yup

I'm glad to havea  chance to to try and convince the person to stick around the blog....

Here's my attempt:

Brick, I'm sure it must sting to have been barred from a thread.  If I were you, I'd just take a month off, nurse the wound and return to CB for the playoffs.  I just posted my first post in a political thread and I'm hoping it will be my last....politics kills, basically.  And it creates the kind of anger that has no end to its depth.  In other words:  anger quicksand.

Leaving the blog entirely won't help.  Not a bit.

Anyway, I need your strong posting style which keeps the blog lively and interesting.  I need your TA support.  I need YOU!  So, don't stay mad, okay?

While the thought of a bunch of actually *clean* goodbye threads sounds great, I think a bit of grief can be spilled as well. When it gets out of hand - really out of hand - you can always lock it up.

Fact remains, I'd rather see this talk out in the open than underground.

As Redz said, each mod can handle member goodbyes as they see fit.  I appreciate the feedback.  However, my personally philosophy is that I'm not going to ask somebody to come back if I don't mean it.  If I *do* mean it, I will ask members to stay, and I've done that several times.  However, those conversations are generally done via PMs (and most of the members who have left -- either permanently or on short leaves of absence -- have been people who have left without a public goodbye thread).

In the present case, I'm just not magnanimous enough to extend any more of an olive branch than the one I gave.  Honestly, after a member tries to paint me with a false brush on his way out the door, there's probably something worse I could have said than that he's a respected member who will be missed, and is welcome to come back.

Eh...  *Sometimes* change is good.  Other times, the status quo is just fine.

(I'd make a political joke at this point, but it's probably inappropriate.)

Although all parties can probably agree that the way the ecomony changed in 2008 *wasn't* good.
