So if Oakland sucks all year and we get the number one pick who would you take, what do you think Belichick would do with the pick and who would he take if he kept the pick?

Too early to say, but here are thoughts:
(1) a DE/OLB
(2) a replacement for Randy Moss.

On point.

I could definitely see them addressing the offensive line.  Those guys aren't getting any younger although Vollmer is shaping up to be a good one.

I dont think he would take a receiver and there is not one worthy of being a number one pick I dont think.

He should take a D lineman. I like the young backers. He could also take a Mankins replacement.

I don't want to jinx it, and I doubt this combo will happen, but I think it'd be absolutely hilarious if the Pats won the superbowl AND got the #1 pick lol.

Great win yesterday.  I wasn't surprised by the offensive dominance, but I was definitely surprised by the sudden influx of actual Athleticism on the Pats now.  Great to see.

Momentum has completely changed toward Cincinnati ... this is what I was afraid of with consistency on the defense.

It’s not because of defensive consistency. They are tired... Tom Brady and the offense have eaten up ZERO time for them to rest and replenish themselves.

The defense got more playing time because (1) Gary Guyton had a pick six, (2) Brandon Tate took the opening 2nd half kick-off to the house.....

I think the Patriots will run the ball a lot more this year and actually win games 24-17 well the young defense learns. They do look a lot more athletic on defense but it is a work in progress.

I worry about Randy Moss taking a powder, though.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Randy Moss has been the finest WR since Jerry Rice by a wide margin.

Even with the number one pick, to expect to replace him is foolish.

I thought it was interesting reading some analysis going into this game by Tedy Bruschi. He wrote that Bill installs his gameplan at the beginning of the week. As the week goes on, if he is not comfortable, he will make the game plan more vanilla. What is interesting is that going back to 07 even, if I could pick one word to describe this defense is just that...vanilla. They could be in the top 5 or 10 in scoring defense, but I cant think of any signature plays that stand out in the last 3 years. In the Super Bowl years, I can think of at least 10 of them. I used to anticipate watching the defense as much as the offense in those days. I expected them to make plays and they usually did.

Well, yesterday was anything but a vanilla defense. There was ALOT of movement and coverage disguise. Also plenty of communication. I know these guys are young, but I think BB has more confidence in these guys now. Who knows, maybe Mayo, Spikes, Chung, McCourty etc are the new Ty law, Rodney Harrison, Mike Vrabel, etc.

These guys were all high draft picks so if Bill is puting them in position to make plays, maybe they are ready. I know  it was only one game, but the biggest question mark for this defense was whether they can make plays. Against a tough Offense in Cincy, they answered that question.

I also heard Vince Wilfork on WEEI this morning talking about how this group has the chance to be special. They all are hungry young players who want to get better. You typically dont hear that kind of talk from BB coached players so it really meant something to me.

I know it is still early when everyone is happy and healthy, but I am MUCH higher on this team than I was a couple of weeks ago. Anyone else as excited as I am?

In reverse order:
(1) Yes.
(2) Me too.
(3) Healthy?  Pats are missing two big pieces to the D -- Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden, and arguably a third in Brandon McGowan -- and at least one important piece in the O -- Nick Kaczur -- and in terms of the UNhappy, we have Randy Moss as exhibit A.

That said, on (3), it seems that the Pats are deeper than we thought, which is great.

I'm excited, but the real test for the team will be how the young guys on defense respond to adversity (it's one thing to play D when you're ahead, different when you are behind), and how they grow throughout the season.

I really like Randy, and I hope he gets to stay around for the rest of his career.

Anyone else find it odd that the Pats released Marques Murrell today, who used to play for the Jets? Did BB basically spend training camp pumping the guy for information on the Jets?

Pats are much more in-sync than they were at this time last year ... I think they're going to surprise a lot of people with just how potent they are at both ends of the field.

I think they'll end up paying him.

They do look more in sync.
However, I have to stand by my earlier words that I wouldn't over react to a loss, and, by that tokey, I shouldn't over react to a win.  There are a lot of young players and they will have ups and downs.  The key question/issue is how they respond to this throughout the course of the season.
