I will give them credit - The celtics certainly have talked the best game in the NBA this year.

No doubt.  I know some don't like it, I do.
Talk is talk. Back it up or shut up. The only time you should ever talk is when you can and will back it up. They don't give out titles for "Biggest loud mouth."

They gave one in 2008. KG was a lot louder in 2008...not just him...the whole team was.

Odd, I had been laboring under the delusion that one was for the 16 playoff wins.

Learn something new every day, I guess.

I was referring to KG's 'nba defensive player of the year' award.

Which was also not awarded simply thanks to his loudness.

No, it wasn't awarded for just being loud. But a loud and vocal KG was the reason why our defense was so good that year.

I don't believe we are saving anything for last.  Let me clarify....I think we are still building and improving (not saving) and will peak and gel at the perfect time.  Health and attitude are getting so much better, timing is starting to click.  We are not there yet.  By the time the playoffs start we should be living up to our own hype.  Good to see that the team still believes despite the press, but the team also knows that they have a way to go before they are living up to their "words".  If they don't believe in themselves when the playoffs start, the season is as futile as that beacon of cheerfulness, vinnie, believes it is.  Being the best last week really doesn't cut it.  Being the best at the end of the season is what it is all about...and I still think they are building toward that goal.  Go Celts!

KG "might" have not been the best defensive player, I think he was, in 2008. Howard might have had more of an impact even at that point.

But its a career achievement reward at worst, much like Kobe's MVP. KG has been the best defender in the NBA over the course of his career, and is probably the best defensive power forward of all time.

I think we'll be able to answer the question as to whether they are saving their best for last in about 7 days from now after the Celtics finish playing their 5th game in  8 days

New York
@Houston
@Dallas
@Utah
Denver

If they come out of that 5-0 or 4-1 then I'll say "Yeah they're saving their best for last and probably could do some damage come playoff time." and I'll be encouraged for the playoffs

If they come out of that 0-5 or 1-4 then I'll say "Yeah, keep losing and let Memphis and Milwaukee pass you too and get down to about the 17th pick in the draft." and I'll be encouraged that the rebuilding process will be starting

If they come out of that 3-2 or 2-3 then I'll say "Yeah, they are still fooling themselves but I guess anything is still possible." and will feel about the same as I do now
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

The Celtics go out every night with the same mindset: To play their best and to win, and they do it one game at a time, approaching that game as one of importance and weight, no matter who it's against. It doesn't vary or change in intensity, (at least in conscious effort) ... anyone who knows or has followed the careers of the Big Three knows this without question, that their intent is to play on the highest level night in and night out. The problem is consistency in execution, and that has been all over the board for this team this year due to many factors, (all of which we have discussed without end, so I won't list here), a certain amount of which is expected, as there is no team that sustains for 100% of the season. The question will be whether or not at the time of the playoffs they will be healthy and more consistent with their application of defense and game-plan, because when they execute the way they're capable of, I believe they can beat anyone. As it is with any season, it will come down to timing, and in what shape we'll be in come crunch time.

How they play these 5 games is more important to me than the Ws and Ls.

In this particular scenario, you have an excellent point

If they go 3-2 or 2-3, given the quality of the competition, then you are right, it's probably best to look at the effort and execution rather than the end result to make a proper read on this team

Of course, then the proper course of action might then be to hold off making a decision on whether this team has a legit chance until after the rest of that homestand

Sacramento
San Antonio
Oklahoma City
Houston
Cleveland

And then I guess we could be back to the same place we started again

I wouldn't mind two losses if they were close games throughout in which the C's played well.

What I'd really like to see is two blowout comfortable wins and then one or two closer games that they pull out in the end.

Yeah, I definitely need to see that the C's can take a good opponent or two, like top 8-10 in the league. and just beat them pretty convincingly

No blowout necessary

Just go out and control the game throughout and win by a very comfortable margin

They've only done this two times since late December, Christmas Day versus the Magic and that west coast game at Portland

I would take a 1 point win on the last shot in double overtime.  I just want to see them beat an elite team.

I'll take any win but for me to change the much lowered expectations I have for this team and start getting me pumped for a playoff run again, it's going to have to take showing that they can, in fact, show they were just saving it all for now and turn it on and start beating some good teams with a bit of authority

One win on a last second shot in 2OT could well be looked at as luck and I want to see the skill and effort to beat teams not the luck to hang with them and then win a game
