Rondo is an average PG. He can't carry a team a la Steve Nash, Chris Paul, and Deron Williams. He is not a scoring threat a la Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Tyreke Evans. Is he better than Aaron Brooks? (questionable) Is he better than Derrick Rose? (Noo) In couple of years, you can add Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings, Jonny Flynn, Rodney Stuckey, and Darren Collison to list of guys that will surpass Rondo.
A nice building block, but not a franchise player.
The best Rondo comparison that I can think of is Jason Kidd. Defense, great passing, incredible rebounding for his size, poor-to-mediocre shooting.
Kidd should have been league MVP his first first year in New Jersey, but people said his job was too easy because he was playing with Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson.
Looking at Martin and Jefferson now I think it is safe to say that their careers were made due to Kidd, not vice-versa. Granted Garnett, Allen, and Pierce are far superior to Martin and Jefferson, but keeping three former first options happy is tough work.
And when you consider how many of his assists are to the second unit (BBD and TA primarily) you have to give the guy a lot of credit.
Steve Nash and Chris Paul do not carry their teams, and do not play the defense of Rondo. Chauncey Billups in his prime was better but he is not the play maker Rondo is, neither is Tony Parker. Tyreke Evans is a scorer and seems to be a bad teammate. I don't know enough about Aaron Brooks. Rodney Stuckey, Jonny Flynn, and Darren Collison shoud not even be mentioned in the same breath as Rondo. Stephen Curry will develop into a different kind of players. Brandon Jennings may surpass Rondo someday.
Lastly Deron Williams is in a league of his own. He is the best PG in the league as of this moment, but Rondo is either second or third. I don't see how that is average.
