We pay the bills. We buy the tickets, buy food and drink and trinkets at the concessions and watch the games on TV giving them numbers which increase the value of their TV contracts. We are passionate but don't see that same passion or commitment from the players or Doc or Danny or Wyc. Why then should we continue to do this????? We have hung in for a long long time with this team through many bad seasons. Why can't we send them a message by not doing those things we do spending $$, showing our disapproval until they show that they wanna play. Wyc, Danny, Doc and the players are all making big, big bucks, and we are paying their salaries.

The players'lack of passion and commitment is obvious. Ever since we beat Orlando at Christmastime, due to a confluence of bad luck (with injuries), scheduling (e.g. Atlanta catching us on three consecutive occasions on the second night of back to backs, and attitude (we can beat anybody whenever we want to) resulting in some terrible losses (none worse than today)and many with blown leads, the players have played when they feel like it, playing to the level of their competition (see Knicks/Nets in 2 of last 3 games).

Danny didn't make any significant deals at the deadline to improve us now and in the future. He didn't use Ray's or any of the other expirings to do anything substantive. Many say "well, the right deal didn't come along." I sat that that is a bunch of crap! I think that Wyc handcuffed Danny by telling him only to deal Ray for a young player and other expirings. Remember? So that was Danny's (because of Wyc) stance and that's why we "the right deal" didn't come along. It was never going to come along given those requirements. It came down to Wyc not wanting to spend more $$ for contracts extending past this year (that is excluding the mythical "young star" we were gonna get that some chump team was gonna give us without taking any "bad" contracts). Was never gonna happen.

Wyc's and Danny's and Doc's stance (the b.s. Celtic party line that they all spew) is/was "we still like this team". That's doublespeak for we are done committing any more $$$ to this team, it's sink or swim time; the revenues will still come in.

Doc's a chump. He's a "players' coach". That's doublespeak too for someone with no balls who lets his veterans especially do anything they want. Grow a pair, Doc. Don't wimp around saying you don't know what to do. A lot of this is on you. Do something!

It seems like no one wants to do anything. The players don't wanna play. Doc has no stones and "doesn't know what to do" (you're a real leader, Doc). And Wyc won't commit so Danny can do anything else. (This trade deadline passing without cashing in on Ray's or the other expirings contracts felt like the lottery losing Duncan, the lottery getting Chauncy and Mercer and the lottery losing a chance at Durant/Oden).
Then why should we do anything as fans to financially support this team. It seems like they have all sent a message to us. LET'S SEND A MESSAGE TO THEM.

Any ideas how?

We can't do ish. We're the fans, we have no power, no one in the organization gives a crap what we say, we have no influence over how anything happens with this team. Get over your delusion - the fan/team relationship is not a close one.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Through logic they will know the fans are not happy.

However, I will support this team (buying celtics gear / watching the game on tv / going to a few games a year) win or no win.

It's times like these, when the team stinks.. that makes the times when they are good all that much better.

The season before the championship I watched about 70 games from start to finish and I think because of all that pain the championship year was about 100x better then it ever could have been for an average front running fan.

Sticking with a team while they are down is a great way to send a positive message too.

i agree, and i watched 80 of 82 games in 2007 (one was when my daughter was born), but at least that team accomplished its goal. that team was assembled to showcase and compile young talent, get in the lottery, and help build towards a title (it is amazing it happened so soon thereafter but that was the plan).

this team was built to contend and it is falling woefully short. not only that, in 2007, i felt the effort was always there from the guys on the court. sure doc played some strange lineups in an effort to perhaps improve lottery position ::), but the guys on the floor always tried.

cannot say i feel that way about this team.

I can't believe (or maybe I should say I naively don't want to believe) that we collectively as fans have no economic power at all in this situation.

You understand that teams posture before the deadline, right?

There are only a couple of ways the fans can send a message.

1) Stop going to games, but since people have already paid for the tickets their not really going to hit Wyc & Co where it hurts.  Plus, I sort of doubt people will decline to go to games since the tickets DO cost so much.

2) Boo the hell out of the team.  Not sure what this accomplishes either besides giving fans the satisfaction of vocally expressing their opinion.  I was actually pretty impressed with the crowds positivity in the Nets game.  Despite the Celtics crapfest there was very little booing, and the fans several times tried to rally the team after made hoops.

In short, not sure there's much the fans can do.  Players play, fans cheer (or boo).

i'm as frustrated as anyone with this team, but what you're talking about is being a bandwagon fan.  first of all, stopping going to games and to stop supporting the team when they lose is not going to cause wyc to want to spend more money, he's going to say "i invested all this money in this team (one of the highest payrolls in the nba??) and no one is showing up, i guess that tells us a lot about celtics fans".

second of all, how would all of that look to fans of opposing teams?  i live in the Bay area, and i'm blown away by the number of die-hard Warriors fans out here.  their management is a joke, they have refused to build a winning team since '95, let popular free agents walk and traded away assets and yet fans continue to support and get excited about the team.

and before you go off on wyc and danny, remember that we have the 3rd highest payroll in the league.  that investment paid off 2 years ago.  say what you want about the chances this year, but they are spending money.  i just hope they continue to do so into the future

  3) Attend the games with a large paper bag in your pocket. Put it on over your head when the team plays poorly.

We pay to build championship winning teams. That's all.

Is it positivity or a case of being clueless.  Anyone with even a little understanding of the nuances of the sport can see that these guys have been dogging it for awhile now.  And if you're a paying customer - as I am - you need to be offended by that.  It's like the players telling the people who (in part) pay their salary - you don't matter.

It would be one thing if they were working their butts off defensively, playing with some passion and just losing because they don't have enough talent.  It's a totally different story to have talent and not put in the effort necessary to at least give the fans their money's worth.

Booing sends a message that they're offending the paying customers.

Redz, Just to clarify I'm not saying you're clueless. Sorry if my message comes off that way. Quite the contrary. I really enjoy your posts.

I was actually referring to the crowd in general that attends regular season games.  Being someone who has at least a little bit of understanding about the game and what it takes to have a team succeed, the way the Celtics have performed at home recently is just offensive to me.

The message needs to go to just the players and the coaches.

The Owner and GM are not going to be able to make any big changes now and it will the final results that will drive them to make changes, not the fans complaining.
