Redz, Just to clarify I'm not saying you're clueless. Sorry if my message comes off that way. Quite the contrary. I really enjoy your posts.

I was actually referring to the crowd in general that attends regular season games.  Being someone who has at least a little bit of understanding about the game and what it takes to have a team succeed, the way the Celtics have performed at home recently is just offensive to me.

You're saying that the people who attend the games are so clueless about basketball that they don't see a problem with the Celts losing to the Nets?

There are only a couple of ways the fans can send a message.

1) Stop going to games, but since people have already paid for the tickets their not really going to hit Wyc & Co where it hurts.  Plus, I sort of doubt people will decline to go to games since the tickets DO cost so much.

The only way for this to send a message is if season ticket renewals drop, I don't see that happening.

I'm saying they should have been booed off the court -- and not for the first time this season. If you're paying money for a product, and it's obvious that the team has either quit or isn't trying very hard, it's wrong to not let them know it.

I think bit by bit if the sports commentators on the radio and newspapers start saying they have to get rid of certain players or the coach and if that doesn't happen they have to get rid of Danny, then things will change. So fans have to sort of start that. If 100% of the comments that the "experts" get say that, they'll join in.

One of the great examples of 'feedback' in Celtics history - though it didn't involve a player.  On John Havlicek Appreciation Night near the end of his last season, Irv Levin, then the Celtics owner, was announced to present Havlicek with a gift.  Levin was booed mercilessly by the Garden fans, and it totally shocked him.  They booed him because he had run the franchise into the ground.  It was reported afterward, that the booing he got that night helped convince Levin to sell the team - which ultimately led to the infamous franchise swap with Buffalo that ushered in the John Y. Brown era.

So unfortunately, things got worse before they got better, but the feedback from the Garden fans that night helped get rid of an owner.

Booing can have an effect....

Yeh, I caught that, and thanks for clarifying.  To be clear I don't have a problem with fans booing - especially when the team is serving up a stink sandwich for the main course - and double-especially when they don't appear to care about it (please don't call the syntax police on me).  The team, for certain, gets nothing out of it, though I see you gave one example of how it might effect management.

Yup

Hmmm, I am pretty sure Danny tried to make a big deal. He was shopping Ray for all sorts of players, but no other team bit.

Ray Allen didn't have the trade value that some have imagined.
