Celtics Chance At Upgrading This Summer

According to some sources the NOH almost traded Chris Paul for Gay, Mayo, Gasol, and a 1st rounder!

Now what are the C's chances in making a splash this summer to improve the team? here is what i think can be considered by DA if he wants this team to stay competetive for a long time and i do know that most of you won't like it

Rondo could be shipped out to the T-Wolves for their 2nd or 3rd overall which could turn into Evan Turner and Ricky Rubio since he doesnt wanna be there! another possibility is moving him to another team for a star and a solid player! but this possibility is realistic

Chris Wallace has done some absurd things, but that rumor is hard to Believe. Even if it means getting CP3, Memphis gives up too much talent for one player. Doesn't make any sense. Take Rudy Gay out, trade becomes more realistic.

As far as Rondo, No way Ainge Trades him. Unless we get Lebron in return, Rondo is untouchable. Rondo is what 24? He hasn't reached his full potential yet. And he isn't anywhere near it. Few years from now, Rondo could be considered the best PG in the NBA. Ainge would trade KG or Pierce, before he touches Rondo.

There is NO way that the Celtics should consider trading Rondo, not now any way. He is our hope to rebuild this team.

I don't agree! For the right player/s and to free up cap space to get a max free agent, I would trade Rondo in a heartbeat.

Literally everything you wrote here is BS. Give us even one source that mentions that trade almost happened.

And how is picking up a shooting guard lottery pick and a player who might not ever even play in the USA, in exchange for a proven All-Star point guard an upgrade?

What you suggest here not only isn't realistic, it's not an upgrade, and doesn't make any sense in any scenario other than entirely blowing up the franchise, which isn't happening.

But what exactly is, "a lot of value"?  Do you mean that he could bring in a bonafide superstar like Kevin Durant that could parlay what we have now into future championships?  Because we all know that isn't happening.  Or do you mean "a lot of value" like Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert?  While those two aren't scrubs, they also won't do anything in the way of keeping us title contenders next year and they likely aren't nearly good enough to put around Rondo and Perkins to win titles in the future.  So what do they become other than the same expiring contracts that KG would be in a couple of years? 

If it's apparent that the C's have zero chance of winning a title next year (meaning that they get knocked out without a fight in the second round WITH a healthy squad), then I'm OK with moving him and starting over.  But if there's even a remote chance in Ainge's mind that this team could win it again next year, then I think we keep things together here.  Having even a remote shot at a title is better than what 90% of the league will sniff next year.

How remote a title chance is acceptable?

If you were to compare your minimum allowed title chance to a team in the league today? Which team would be closest to your minimum allowed squad? Denver? Atlanta? Utah? Phoenix? Oklahoma? Toronto? Miami? Which team would be the cut off point for you?

My own cut off point is Atlanta or Utah. So, for me to be satisfied with keeping this team together, the Celtics would need to be better than those two teams. Otherwise, I would want the team to be broken up.

Trading Rondo to open cap space can't happen for this summer

It is an impossibility

Can trading him during the 2010-11 regular season or this off season for an expiring contract to open cap space for the 2011 off season happen....possibly, but it would be hard and could be useless because he is still a Base Year Compensation player at that point and because with the resigning of Pierce and some free agents this summer on 2 year contracts, even trading him then may not open space

The next time this team could see significant cap space to sign a free agent is probably the summer of 2012

Resign yourself to that fact and it will stress you out about incoming big name free agents a lot more

  The only way to get cap space is to trade the big three. If you trade Rondo and the big three you'll have no use for the cap space because nobody will sign here.

I'd be about the same.  I might be even more selective, as I don't think Atlanta or Utah has any real shot (though the Hawks could improve, so that's something).

I heard JVG mention this as a way to improve NO during last nights game.  He was full of crap, he was just tossing BS out there--trade CP and bad deals for wings that could score.  It made no sense even-trading the cheap Collison with the expensive wings they have for some solid scorers might make sense...but JVG's "analysis" was that New Orleans has two starting quality PG's and needs wings, so a trade would make sense.

Collison looks really, really good though...don't know if I'd have the nuts to trade CP, but I wouldn't mind Collison as a starting PG.

Any of you watched the Hornets vs Magic last night? the announcers were talking about this trade and how possible it was even Van Gundy said that it was too much to give up if you just take Gay or Mayo out of the trade then it would work!!!!!!
