I think the league should show some balls and actually prevent the Cavs from re-signing him.

No free trades.
Couldn't agree more. The Cavs get Jamison for nothing. Highway robbery.

remember Gary Payton a few years back?
Didn't like that move then, still don't like that move now. I just don't think it's fair to the rest of the league.

Agreed.  It kind of defeats the purpose of making a trade if you get the players you traded back.
do it

It doesn't just kind of defeat the purpose of the trade.  The word trade means you give up something to get something.

  • LETS DO IT AGAIN!
Z would be great.
He would hang out at the 3pt line with Sheed and Nate.

Then only BBD and Marquis would get offensive rebounds.

Only sign him to keep him away from Cavs, like the Yankees do to the Red Sox annually.

He's going back to the Cav's.

I honestly want him on the Cavs. He is Mr. Cleveland.

It's almost like the Cavs don't realize how important he is to spreading that offense out.

The best time to stop something wrong is now.  Just because it's happened in the past doesn't mean it's okay now.

Technically it wasn't a "free" trade but come on...we all know that a late (really late) first rounder isn't a fair trade for Antawn Jamison.
we could have made the same trade.

Rumors are getting spread (by Z's agent, by Cavs insiders) that other teams are interested in and talking to Z so that they can cover-up the wink-wink/nudge-nudge aspects of this trade/buyout.  They want it to look like there's a bona fide scramble to sign the big guy, when everyone already knows that it's a done deal.

I'd like Big Z, but I don't think it's realistic that the C's stand any chance of prying him away.  Unless things have changed a lot since earlier in the season, this sounds like Z's last go-'round in the league, I can't see how or why he would leave a team that needs him, why he would want to move.

This is all have Big Z and his agent "Listen to offers" for 30 days until he goes back to the Cavs.

And if anyone thinks he will go to any team not named the Cavs they're delusional.

disagree ... the other team doesn't want him ... the player saves the team money by paying for his freedom

From an employer/employee perspective, this is actually probably how it SHOULD work

The C's are "interested" in any talented buy out.  Doesn't mean there is any chance it happens.

Right now, I would say there is about an 80% chance Z goes back to the Cavs, and about a 20% chance that a team with part of the MLE or the LLE offer Z a bigger role, and more money, and he takes it.  One wild-card that I wouldn't rule out would be him ending up in San Antonio.

The C's, and every other team in the league, can be as interested as they want.  Z's going back to the Cavs.

The next CBA should include a rule where the player, if bought out of their contract after a trade, cannot resign with their original team.  It's nothing but cap circumvention and rigged trading.

Doesn't matter that this case is Z in particular.  Still feel the same way if the C's had traded Ray with the expectation of resigning him.  It's not a ethical practice even if it is within the current rules.

It's an easy enough fix; if a player gets bought out, they can't re-sign with their original team for the remainder of the season.  30 days is nothing but a vacation, especially since we're generally talking about older player, who could use some rest, who already know the systems.

The Players Association will Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. and moan about limiting the ability of players to sign with a team, but no one told Big Z he had to take a buyout.

I would take it another way.  A player can return to their original team (hell, even take out the 30 day waiting period).  However, just make it so they are ineligible for the playoffs if they do return to their original team during that season.  That will definitely make them think twice about circumventing the rules, but it will also allow player, who truly don't want to move their family in the middle of the school year, to have that option.
