Quote
The Golden State Warriors have reportedly rejected an offer for Monta Ellis from Memphis that would have included O.J. Mayo and salary cap filler, according to multiple sources Via Mercury News

I would be all over this if I was GSW . What are they doing?

Wow, they're completely [misguided] if they turned down Mayo for Ellis.

The Grizzlies are totally, bafflingly stupid if they considered Mayo for Ellis.

Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Wow, I misread the headline at first and thought the Grizzlies turned down an offer of Ellis for Mayo and was thinking to myself "rightly so, Mayo is far more valuable than Ellis".

But the Grizzlies offered up Mayo for Ellis? What are they doing?

We've heard in the past that Mayo and Gay don't get along.  This might be further evidence of that, along with an apparent preference for Gay over Mayo by the Grizzlies front office.

So much for the theory that Memphis were looking to move Mike Conley in order to make OJ Mayo their PG of the future.

i'd suggest a threeway where Ray goes to GS, Memphis gets Ellis and Boston gets Mayo, but it's already been made clear that GOlden State laughed at Ainge when he tried to trade Ray for Ellis.

How about

Bos sends: Ray + Perk + 1st
Bos gets: Mayo + Beindris(sp?)

GSW sends: Ellis + Biedrins
GSW gets: Ray , Perk + 1st

Mem sends : Oj Mayo + filler
Mem gets : Ellis

Too bad Warriors rejected it. Would've been interesting to see Monta in Memphis. And OJ going back to the west coast.  Bold move by Memphis, I like. Rudy Gay+Monta Ellis=Coach's Dream. But if you Put a scorer like OJ on the warriors he would be 20+ppg scorer. Maybe a little downside from Monta but not much for the warriors.

I just read the report -- the offer was made at the start of the season. Not recently.

Monta is from Memphis, which might explain part of that.

But he may also be on the move as part of a TMac trade.

I think them wanting Monta Ellis is more to do with him being from Mississippi & wanting to sell more tickets than it does talent. Im was Born in Memphis so I do know that Miss is only 20-25 minutes away from Memphis driving.  Plus it is not so much difference in talent.

That would make sense.  Theres no way the offer gets proposed/rejected today.

Wow, they're completely retarded if they turned down Mayo for Ellis.

The Grizzlies are totally, bafflingly stupid if they considered Mayo for Ellis.

let's try not to throw around the "r" word...it's offensive

okay.  they're completely "very very stupid" if they turned down Mayo for Ellis.

I think he's trying to say that you should say the Grizzlies are completely autistic if they considered trading Mayo for Ellis.

No wait... that can't be right.  I'm messing up my political correctness.

mentally handicapped i believe is the P.C. term.  autistic is something different.

the idea here is that it's offensive to compare people who may be bad at their jobs to people who have special needs, as in reality said people who are bad at their jobs in fact do not have special needs.  It's not about being PC, it's about being respectful.  People with special needs are amazing in what they do, the day to day struggles they overcome, and throwing around language like this diminishes those who really do have special needs.  FYI: Mental retardation is a condition where one has an IQ of 70 or lower.  To me, throwing around "retard" is about as bad as using a racial or ethnic slur, yet people don't think twice about it.  Shame really.  Hopefully some people can learn here.

TP.

I think both participants in that conversation should be reprimanded.  Yet as usual, the Mods dont like to touch this subject.  If it was a racial slur on the other hand............THREAD LOCKED.

Edgar, sorry for belaboring the point, but as a Mod and someone who is pursuing a Masters in Special Education so that I can have the privilege, and I do mean privilege, of teaching children with Special Needs I feel the need to chime in.  Yes, the term is offensive, and no, I would not treat it any differently than a racial slur if I had been around to see it.  I don't know that I would necessarily lock a thread, but I would certainly issue a warning, as I'm sure any of my fellow mods would.  You can call it PC, or whatever, but mostly using the term "retard" is mean and juvenile and doesn't really belong here.

I'll echo what CDIF said, and reiterate what DL suggested.  We are not omnipresent.  If something offends you, bring it to our attention, and we'll look into it.
