Ray Allen (Maybe send Shelden back as well ;))

for

Kevin Martin + Andres Nocioni

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Sacramento is looking at the future of their team.

They watched tonight as Tyreke Evans showed his stuff,

Omri Casspi showed solid play on both sides of the ball,

Jason Thompson is going to be something as well.

ON THE OTHER SIDE... Kevin Martin is signed up like he's the star of the team, but not only is he not the star, he also doesn't play well along side the star.

Andres Nocioni is also eating up money that could be used to build around their young core.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Tonight Sacramento watched KMart sit down as the team lost, they also watched Ray Allen come in and do what their young guys could not... hit clutch FTs to win the game.

Tonight Boston watched Ray Allen struggle shooting, struggle guarding KMart while he was in there, then play decent defense for the rest of the game. We also know that Ray isn't getting younger... The future Hall Of Famer is coming of screens with almost zero separation from mediocre defenders, and it's slowing down our starting lineup.

So I'm seeing the most obvious trade I've ever seen.

I really do like Martin, but have you had a look at Noc's contract? It's not reasonable for our ownership to have to pay that much into the lux tax.

It's an obvious trade until the moment you realize that we really have no idea if taking back Nocioni's contract is all it would take to land Martin.

I think that after the Gasol trade people have significantly started to overrated cap relief as trade bait.

I really, really doubt that Martin is available to anyone who is willing to take Nocioni along. Even teams who everyone knows are desperate to shed larger contracts expect something in return. The suns are shopping Amare to anyone around, but still want a young player and a 1st back.

Martin is making 11 Mil next year, and Nocioni is making 6.8 Mil.

As of right now, if we let ALL of our free agents walk the salary is going to be 64 Million. That leaves us with this:

Rondo

Pierce, Walker
Garnett, BBD
Perkins, Wallace

So basically then our only move is to sign Ray to a one year deal at (hopefully) about 7-8 million.

So at about 72 Mil that adds our starting SG who will BTW be 35 years old.

So now we need to add some depth... our two draft picks will probably add about another 2 Mil to the cap (74 Mil), then the MLE will have 5 Mil to add two major contributors... leaving the team at 79 Mil with 12 players.

I think that no matter what they will be paying quite a bit of luxury tax.

Right now we're at 85 Million... maybe the captain will opt out of his contract and sign for less. Just to say "hey this would be going to me, use it to get us more help" He did say he was willing to opt out for better players.

Well it isn't happening.

If we don't trade Ray and we win the Finals it'll be great, but if we don't... then there's nobody better coming for a while. And we literally can't sign anybody other than him.

That's definitely the case; but we're not going to get an offer for Ray that's good enough.  If teams were eager to trade their young talent for Ray, we would have heard about it.  That Caron / Antawn trade was our best chance at a big trade.

All the teams with young talent are either going to stand pat or are looking to trade for a real player e.g. Amare.

Unless it's a team like Chicago who's desperate to get into this year's FA class.

and that is the bigger issue than than any...really screws us next year b/c 1. there is no guarentee ray will take a 1 year deal on the cheap 2. we have so many holes to fill already on the bench 3 and most guys this summer are max guys that boston cant afford.

I disagree.

Cap flexibility is still king if you want to rebuild a team. If anything, that Gasol deal cemented that. The Grizzlies are already on their way with an exciting affordable young core.

How many seconds did Martin play in the 4th last night, 30? The bigger issue is not whether the Kings would want salary relief in trading Martin, it's likely the fact that the Cs won't take one of their bad contracts to get him.

Until this summer, when they have to decide whether they want to pay Gay star money.  Then, suddenly it is not all that affordable anymore.

And they also ended up getting tremendous value out of the Gasol trade other than the cap relief...particularly in Gasol's brother, who was looked at by many as a throw-in.
