The Boston Celtics discussed a possible trade for Caron Butler(notes) before the Washington Wizards decided to send him to Dallas. The Celtics also have inquired about the availability of Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis(notes), Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Martin(notes) and Philadelphia 76ers swingman Andre Iguodala(notes). None of the talks have become substantive.

The Celtics would likely include Ray Allen(notes) in any big deal, but have made it clear they want an upper-echelon young player in return, regardless of position.

The Celtics also reached out to the Phoenix Suns about Amar’e Stoudemire(notes), but don’t have the means to get a deal done.

Ok... Ellis, Butler, Martin, Iguodala, Stoudemire... Mmmh... Sad to read this list

I'm actually glad to read this list, particularly about Danny wanting an upper-echelon young player, regardless of position.

Means, he recognizes he's in rebuild mode.  Otherwise, he'd insist on getting a quality 2 guard back for Ray.

I think somebody will give up a quality young player by Thursday.  It's his contract they'll want, not Ray the player.

I have no doubt that Danny kicked the tires on Amare.  He would've been nuts not to even talk to Phoenix.  I'm sure he was told the price and Danny realized that we didn't have the necessary pieces.

hard to take when the cavs are basically going to give up j j hickson for amare. Z will bein the deal but will be bought out. i wish boston had some young player with any kind of upside to pair with ray allen's contract...

I'm with you... just let me explain my words: I'm sad we can't trade for anyone on that list, but obviously no blame for danny, i love his work of course

P.s. Do you think we should trade perkins with ray?

Depends on how desperate teams are to shed salary.  Some teams are hemorrhaging money.  I don't think there are many buyers in this market (at least not with huge expirings), so we'll see.  If they're desperate enough, they just might do it.  Ray and Baby might get it done, or Ray and a first, something like that.  I mean, Hickson's a decent prospect, for example, but nothing I'd consider great, and now he's off the table.

i agree...so you are telling me that Z's contract, hickson and the last pick in the first round is something danny couldn't match with ray allen's huge expiring, BBD or Perk and boston's own higher first round pick? doesn't make much sense to me to say boston doesn't have the pieces to get amare.

Well, if Phoenix is asking for things that we're unwilling to give up, then we don't have the pieces to get it done.  The Celtics have to have a willingness here too.  It's rather simple.

We have no idea how close Phoenix really is to getting this done.  Its all speculation but I'm sure its in negotiation.

Talks are heating up in Dallas this weekend between the Cavaliers and Suns centering on forward/center Amar'e Stoudemire.

A source said the Suns want whatever team that trades for the 6-foot-10, 249-pound Stoudemire to also take guard Jason Richardson.

That might be why the Cavs haven't pulled the trigger on such a deal.

It's also why a third team might need to be included in such a trade.

Stoudemire, 27, is making $16.4 million this season and owns a player option on his 2010-11 contract worth $17.7 million. Richardson checks in at $13.3 million this season and $14.4 next year.

Taking Richardson's contract could be a major sticking point for the Cavs and other teams.
