Quote from Doc in today's Herald "Three, leaning back on your past success. Your past success is no guarantee to future success, and I think this team leans back too far on what they've done."

Well Doc, you're the coach and are getting very well compensated to perform that job.  Maybe it's time to start letting the people who subscribe to the above theory know it's not going to be tolerated -- and then backing it up by taking the drastic step of say...taking away playing time..... ::)  Just a thought...

I don't know the context of that quote, but I don't think it refers that much to Davis.  Honestly, I think that could refer to Doc as much as anyone, who continues to give the benefit of the doubt to guys like Ray, KG, and Wallace, while having a short leash on other guys, even when they are performing well.

But really, I think that is a problem with the whole team.  They all seem to think its 2008, and the ship will just right itself.  However, it is not 2008.  The players skillsets have all changed, and they need to make the proper adjustments.

this isnt 2008 and the ship is half way into the iceberg and taking on water very quickly. they are the 4th best team in east and prolly 10th best in the nba right now. no more of this talk about the regular season not being important. this team is just not very good the way it is constructed right now

No surprises -- Glen Davis should ask for a trade. He is never going to be happy playing 15-20 minutes a night as the fourth big in the rotation. Not after what he achieved last season as a starter at the end of the season and during the playoffs.

He's a third big at best with his game though, he needs to get used to it.

Glen Davis is not and should not accept that based on his performance last season. This is his career and he owes it to himself to see what he can do in major minutes.

Will he fail? Absolutely ... but he has to try.

Given that nobody forced  him to sign a multi year extension, it is hard to play the violin for him.  Given that the Celtics voluntarily did not go after Baby harder for a 29 game injury that he sustained in a potentially outside the bounds of the contract he signed sort of way.  Given that he is still as roly poly as he ever was despite his claim that it would change.  He is speaking out of frustration, but the team has been more than fair to him.

Actually, rereading the quotes, I don't think he was complaining.  I think he genuinely was thinking he could help the team by allowing guys like Wallace to get a little more rest.  In a way, its almost an admission of how much he hurt the team by being hurt the first part of the year.

But that's my point, any good coach or team he's on will have him as the 3rd big at best. Most of his career he's going to be a 15-25 minute player.

He needs to maximize his talents by making the most of that. If he plays well enough he'll get his shot.

He would have been a restricted FA again if he signed a one year deal. Davis was essentially forced by the CBA to take at least a two year deal. To do otherwise would have been taking less money and gain no additional freedom.

Yeah, I see this too.

I agree.  A lot of people are overreacting here because of some things we all hold against BBD (aka the thumb).

We have to forgive and forget and give him a chance to help this team get over this hump.

He can't finish.

Until he can finish, no more minutes. Tough to play a unathletic big who plays under the rim.

Hey, Ray can't make a three these days, but he still gets 40 minutes.

Ray getting 40 minutes is probably one of the reasons he's struggling somewhat.
My hope is that with Daniels coming back Ray can get back down to 35 minutes a game.

He's playing 36 now.  There is no magic pill for being done.

I'd like to see him playing 26.  (But I'd still like to see him taking the last shot.)

Do you think Ray can be talked into playing just 26 min or a 6th man role because if so I agree.  I also have no problem with him taking the last shot.

Of course but, that doesn't jive with his selfishness which is causing team dissention angle that is being created by the fans that for some reason don't like his game.  Everything he said was on point as well.
