I know that Josh has been hurt this season, but does Chris Sheridan pointed it out here:http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/30741

The big thing for them is deciding whether to move J.Howard now for long money, which would take them out of the mix for acquiring Bosh in a sign-and-trade next summer. Josh isn't helping matters by playing so poorly, diminishing his value. Just a thought, but I imagine they could probably do something with Boston along the lines of Howard/Barea/filler for Ray Allen that would be low-risk long-term for both teams.

I mean is it worth a shot? Josh Howard instead of Ray. He would give us a better defender, who's less fragile and more agile than Ray Allen. And the bench gets a legit pg. I guess House and Berea couldn't play together. it would make for a very small backcourt.

BTW, is it me or has House been playing "orange cone"/matador type defense lately. (everyone is going around him)

Eddie has always been a bad defender - but a high effort one.  Hard thing is our help side this year has been much worse than previous years.

Less fragile than Ray?  Have you seen how many games Josh Howard has missed in the last couple of years?  I'd love to have him if I thought he could stay healthy, but we'd basically be adding another injury question mark to a team with plenty of injury question marks.

See my post in the other trade ray thread about what teams get historical for expiring contracts and little else as an offer.

None of those are happening.

i disagree it's an impossibility. it's more about the lack of recoginition of what they'll have to give up / take to do so that i see on the blog....

Who are our pieces, other than expiring contracts?

Almost every other contender has a young bench player with upside/ some other piece teams value to toss in with their expirings.

Who are ours?

Eddie house?
Tony Allen?
Glen davis, who no teams wanted over the summer?
Bill walker?

We (the Celtics organization) do not have many pieces that other teams consider valuable, outside guys we don't want to give up because it runs the white flag up on the season (Rajon, Perk)

Howard is a knucklehead...Ray for Howard? That just doesnt pan out for us. Iggy should be our option...

On a side note; Sheridan talks Rasheed and Marquis for Robinson, Jefferies, and Jordan Hill....What? Where the heck did that come from?

Laid this out in the thread you mention.

Despite the lack of young talent, the Cs have the ability to take a large amount of bad salary, and they have picks.

Not saying they will use either, but they sure could and the examples you suggest won't happen may all be enticed by some combo of the two (though I have no interest in Ellis -- he's a poor man's Iverson who ruins his teams chance of winning, yet without the heart of AI).

I think we have to throw history out the window completely here.  There is an unprecedented level of financial woe in the NBA right now.  Getting talent back in a trade is probably the 4th highest priority for most teams.  The first 3 are as follows:
1. Reduce salary obligations
2. Further reduce salary obligations
3. Go even further to reduce salary obligations

The Celtics have the 2nd most expensive expiring contract in the league (behind TMac).  We are in a much better negotiating position than you seem willing to acknowledge.

Even if we are not able to get an elite player for Ray I would rather keep him than do this deal.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

That doesn't sound very appetizing. Howard's game seems to have dropped off over the last few years. Plus he is not a particularly good closer. I believe he had the most 1st quarter points in the NBA last year (or highest PPG). But for the remaining three quarters his numbers were not nearly as good. What does that show you?

You would obviously pull the trigger if the trade brings us Andre Iguodala or Monta Ellis, but unless their GMs are really desperate they will laugh in Ainge's face if offered just Ray Allen.
