I'd be more inclined to keep Deng and build around a foursome of Derrick Rose + max contract + Luol Deng + Joakim Noah.
But I can see the temptation in wanting to remove Deng from the picture and trying to sign two max contract players. If it worked out, it would be the better option.
The ideal would be to target a package of Deng and Hinrich. This combo would mean CHI would be in the market for two powerhouse FAs.
The problem with that strategy is two-fold. If they miss out on the prime FAs they look silly. Plus, Deng, unfortunately, is playing some of the best basketball of his career right now.
CHI is going to be hard pressed to gamble on the FA market with Deng playing the way he is. And if they are able to move Hinrich and Salmons, they still will be able to make a big move for Wade. Rose, Wade, Deng, Noah is a pretty strong starting five.
The complicating factor is this: Does Wade think that Rose, Wade, and Deng is a Title team. He might want to go to a better situation. One where he teams up with Bosh, for instance. and if that's the case, then CHI might be well advised to clear enough room to get two max FAs...
The landscape of this is very difficult to figure. But it sure is fun!
Anyway, long story short. I'm not ready to part with Ray, but getting Deng AND Hinrich would make a ton of sense for the Cs. They would have to do that deal and risk chemistry problems.
Rondo
Paul
Deng
KG
Perk
Hinrich

That's a Title team in terms of talent. They would have to do a crash course to get the chemistry right, however....
It would solve ALL our problems moving forward, though....
