Even if it will never happen it would be fun to discuss.

Ray Allen to the Hawks for Joe Johnson?

Does either team do this deal? probably not, but how awesome would it be to have JJ back in green.

Did Wilbon elaborate, at all, to the reasons behind it?

Basically that the Celtics needed to trade Ray to get someone younger who can be with them for a while. The hawks would trade Johnson if they believed they couldn't sign him. Here's the video:

the Hawks can't kibosh a playoff run like that - and the right to resign Ray doesn't seem like enough incentive to deal JJ when they can just get the cap savings if he leaves (or the option to S&T him in the summer)

It's definetly not a trade that is happening but assuming the Hawks offered it the Celtics would have to accept and then lock up Joe Johnson long term right?

You mean like the one where someone traded Joe Johnson for Rodney Rogers and Tony Delk, so the team could make it all the way to the second round of the playoffs?

That deal was a Jim O'Brien special.  I was told by someone who should know that Chris Wallace did not want to do that deal.

  • 36 charges and counting..
I think it's crazy as well but, I also sense that people think Crawford could take JJ's place which I find even crazier.

This has a less of shot of being true than the Monta rumored deal.

ECF, fyi.  Yeah Jim O'Brien the coach told the GM you must trade a rookie before he completes his first season...

It's not happening this season, because the Hawks would be giving up their playoff run (not to mention the playoff revenue).  However, I think this makes a lot of sense in the offseason.

I could see a trade based around a resigned Ray (say, 2 years, $18 million, de-escalating), a guy like Davis, and a draft pick or two, for a resigned Johnson.

I know I gave Tanguay a rough time for suggesting Johnson could be joining the C's next year, but I think he was right about that being a posibility.  He just was not understanding how it could possibly happen.

Does either team do this deal? probably not, but how awesome would it be to have JJ back in green.

wilbon was suggesting Allen to a contender - he misses the point, an Allen trade is for his contract not his talent.  Almost assuredly Allen will end up on a contender - but will be because he gets bought out by a desperately poor team.

Yeah, the former management (the Gastons if I recall?) just did a horrendous job.

I think the contender he ends up with after getting bought out is your very own Boston Celtics. The meeting he had with Danny screams of collusion and I fully suport it.
