he 15-year veteran is supposedly interested in heading to the Miami Heat or, in order to stay near his home in Connecticut, the New York Knicks. Player involved in this trade could be Nate Robinson and David Lee.

it is probably just speculation

How credible a source can this be if he doesn't understand that Ray Allen's salary coming off the books doesn't equate into free agency available dollars

This is just a trade idea from some blogger
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham

I wouldn't hate that trade, mostly because i think lee is a heck of a player.

yea but if Nate Robinson and David Lee were traded here they lose their Bird rights making it pretty much impossible to resign them.

This would be a great trade if Danny can turn Perkins into OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, or some other young wing.

This sounds like they read the story by Wojo, misunderstood it, and created their own rumor from that.  Wojo reported that Ray would have interest in going to the Knicks next season, and it was twisted around into a trade rumor with the Knicks right now, with them speculating that the C's would want Lee and Robinson (salary's of course don't match).

I do think the Knicks could be an interesting trade partner if the C's decide to deal Ray, but right now, this just seems like pure speculation.

yea you're probably right.

I would do this deal though

Bos sends: Ray,BBD ,TA and 1st rd pick
NYK sends: Nate, Lee, Curry( for salary purposes) and chandler

Move PP to SG and start Chandler at SF

Could the Knicks give the C's an opportunity to talk with Lee and maybe work out an extension?  If that were allowed I'd absolutely love the trade (however made up it might be).

He can't sign an extension if he is traded, unless the team is below the cap.  This is the problem, by being traded, he forfeits his Bird Rights, meaning teams cannot go over the cap to sign him without using the MLE.

Huge 3 way deal that makes us younger but still talented and deep enough to still compete. Kings free up cap space as do the Knicks

Bos - Nate,Kmart,Thompson and Chandler
Sac - Curry,Milicic,Giddens and Jeffries
NYC - Ray,KennyThomas, and Scal

Add in draft picks where needed, but I really feel this trade makes us better and gives the other two teams the wanted cap room to sign this summer

Rondo gets his backup and bench spark plug.
We get a new starting SG that can put up 25-30
Thompson can develop great next to Perk and by KG
Chandler has a chance to be a nice SF with Pierce's help
Can't stop, Rondo!

What is the rationale for Sacramento?

So we get all the talent and the other two get crap?  Sac get royally hosed.  I'm not against hosing another team but it does tend to be against realistic expectations.

I haven't seen a lot of Chandler but I think we now have a weaker starting 5 and PP's days of guarding SG's is pretty much at an end.

Not so, if a player is traded his new team gets the player's bird rights. First paragraph: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#19

Usually a player loses bird rights by either changing teams via free agency, or if the player becomes a free agent and his team renounces his bird rights (what the Magic did with Darko Milicic to sign+trade for Rashard Lewis).

Not that this will ever happen, but if the two teams did decide to deal, here's a more realistic trade with the Knicks if Ray were involved.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yl8bmyh

In order to give up Chandler (and to a lesser extent Nate), the Cs would have to take Curry -- Jefffries isn't enough.

Curry never plays for the Cs. He's told to stay home ala Tinsley until the trade deadline next year, at which point he's cut if not traded.

Milicic is insurance / 6 fouls in case the Cs need him against the Cavs, Magic, Lakers, whatever. He goes back to Europe at the end of the year.

Nate is unlikely to be resigned considering he loses his Bird Rights, but he could be just the jolt the Cs need of the bench before our window starts to close.

The prize is Chandler, who I feel is an underated player. He's an excellent defender & slasher, and an emerging shooter.

The Cs essentially pay $24mil (Curry's salary next year + lux tax) to get Nate and Chandler. If they win it all this year, not to mention the long term value of Chandler, it's worth that much for certain.

Again -- not going to happen -- just trying to make a point about what will be required of the Cs to get anyone of value off of the Knicks.

The alernative would be to take Jeffries to get just Nate, which I'm not in favor of.
