yea but if Nate Robinson and David Lee were traded here they lose their Bird rights making it pretty much impossible to resign them.

Not so, if a player is traded his new team gets the player's bird rights. First paragraph: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#19

Usually a player loses bird rights by either changing teams via free agency, or if the player becomes a free agent and his team renounces his bird rights (what the Magic did with Darko Milicic to sign+trade for Rashard Lewis).

Incorrect. Not on a one year vet deal. The player has the right to veto any deal because he loses his bird rights if traded.

Hmm, can you give me more info on this(link, etc)? I've always thought that if a player had at least three years with a team, even if it was three seperate 1 year deals he still has bird rights. Lee completed 4 seasons with the Knicks before signing his current 1 year deal.

Nevermind, I was able to find some posts on realgm about it from this past summer....odd.

So for the both of them it would just be a one-year rental basically.

I didn't like the idea in the first place but this definitely makes it just a dumb move. Danny isn't that knee-jerk thankfully.

lee is an overachiever. we would be much worse replacing perk with lee as I have heard some people suggest.lee is a little bit better than a healthy leon powe, to me.

Interesting post.  Seems like a lot of fans want some kind of trade.

Regarding another post, the complexities of the salary cap and Collective Bargaining Agreement are a lot for the average fan to digest and factor in.  However, the link provided should be helpful for those wishing to understand them.

Nellie says Allen for Ellis is dead.  Bulls killed Hinrich trade. Norcioni probably too expensive for us.

There are trades to be made which would keep us a championship contender this year.  Get Jamison or Camby, make KG the 6th man and let Tony start if Ray goes and we don't get a better guard.

Tony appears to be a good NBA player and only injuries and limited playing time appear to have hindered his becoming a solid player.  He will likely never approach Ray-how many players will?

Could we sign either of them to an extension starting next year of any amount during the season? It seems that if we trade for them and they give up their bird rights no way we we retain them next year.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

The way you get David Lee is to do a sign and trade on draft night.

If the trade was about to go down, couldn't NYK extend Lee and then trade him to us?

Well, he couldn't be sign and traded until a week or two after the draft, when the free agent period begins, but I suppose you could work out a sort of under the table deal on draft night, it would just be very sketchy, since the C's wouldn't be allowed to negotiate with him at that point.

For who? Rondo? Pierce? Ray Allen? Not likely...
