Why for Boston:
We move Ray Allen who is on the downside of his career for a younger version of him in Kevin Martin.  It’s a gamble for this year, but it’s an absolute win for next season and beyond.  He could be a key piece of our long term future along with Rondo and Perkins.

Why for Sacramento:
They rid themselves of the big contract of Nocioni and gain a couple more 1st round picks over the next two years.

There have been a lot of rumors that Martin is also on the trading block.  There have also been a lot of rumors of us being interested in Nocioni in the past.  He could back up Paul, and play some 4 as well.

Optional:  Could we get Thompson as well?  There was a rumor about him going to the Bobcats, even though I think the Kings would be silly to part with him.  We could throw in a guard or two with an expiring contract to make it work (though at this point, I really don’t want to part with Tony Allen).  The Kings would have as much money as anyone come the off-season if we took these three contracts off their hands.

What do you guys think?  Would both teams do it?

I would do this years pick BBD and ray for kevin Martin and Nocioni, but no way I give them 2012 1st rounder. There is a chance that could be a very high pick depending on what the team looks like next year. If we get booted before the finals this year I think there is a chance Danny blows it up.

It could be lottery protected, or protected some other way.

I don't think the Celtics would do this because they would be taking on too much salary. That said, I think we're giving up too much in this trade. Why two 1st rounders? The Kings shedding payroll would be enough incentive for them. Also, Kevin Martin plays defense like a 10 year old girl.

Just say no to Nocioni.  We want Raja Bell (expiring) and Anthony Randolph instead.

As long as we are a playoff team, I'm not very worried about draft picks.

They should be giving us the picks for taking on all that salary.

First, I am a big supporter of going after Kevin Martin, I think it would be a great move.  I'm sure the Celts could turn him into a serviceable defender.  Look what they have done with Ray.

I am not a fan of Nocioni or how he would fit with the Celts, really.  But why not go after Beno Udrih instead? That would solve our backup PG woes, allow House to fully be a backup SG, and provide a solid bench unit when the team is fully healthy (you know, if that ever happens, which is unlikely).

Udrih makes a lot of cash for a backup PG, but I'd rather overpay him than Nocioni, I think.

I think they're making this trade to stay championship competitive now as much as they are for the future, so I think they'd be willing to take on the salary if it helps them, and I believe Nocioni can, and there's no doubt Martin can.

As for Martin's defense, Ray Allen wasn't considered much of a defensive player when he came here, and that concerned us, but he's done alright.  I think playing along side KG, and having Tibs as our defensive coach improves your defense a lot.

I probably would start by offering Allen straight up, then throw in a 1st round pick or two as an extra incentive if necessary.

agreed, not sure why we'd even consider giving them anything other than ray in such a trade.

Bell is out for the year as far as I know and Randolph cannot contribute enough to a championship team.  I don't think we should give up on this year.  We are still one of the contenders.

Fair enough - you could be right, but if you had to throw in a 1st or two to make it happen would you?  Martin is a young All-Star quality shooting guard.  His good outside shooting would fill in perfectly with this team and Rondo's penetration, as Ray has shown it does.  We could end up getting nothing for Ray, or we could bring him back and continue to watch his decline.  I'd rather make sure we get a solid replacement for him if we have the chance.  The 1st round picks are going to be #23+ both years at least.  They'll be another Walker and Giddens more than likely.

And last I checked Randolph and Bell didn't play on the Kings.

Sacremento isn't trading Martin for nothing. Yes, they'd like to dump salary. But they're not doing this for just Ray.

Doc has shown he's more willing to put Rondo out there for 40 minutes a night if necessary, so I think a backup point guard is less necessary than it was.  Beno has never come close to impressing me, and his contract is worse than the other guys mentioned here.  I'd rather overpay Nocioni who can play a couple of different positions and get more minutes making his contract more worthwhile.

If im giving up ray allen and two future first round picks, i'm talking to other teams, not the kings.

Kevin martin is a good player, he's not ray allen + two years of first rounders good.
