Rodman.  One of the alltime great defenders in his early years, one of the alltime great rebounders in his latter years, and many many titles.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I voted for DJ with my heart.  But my head says Bernard King - he was a phenomenal scorer.

If Rodman wasn't such a jerk I'd suggest him - but I always felt he could have been even better if wasn't trying to be a sideshow clown...

1. DJ, 2. 'Nard, 3. JoJo, 4. Artis, 5. Worm...Chambers in not sure, but in leaning towards no.
And what about Tom Sanders? I know his stats wasnt great but he won 8 rings and was important to Celtics interior defense just like KC Jones was toour backcourt. KC is in HOF, hope we'll see Satch soon...

Bernard King, for sure. JoJo White needs to be in there, as well. He's a great person. I think I spent half an hour or so talking to him when he was at UMO. DJ and Rodman also need to be in there. Chambers, I don't know.

dj, he deserves to be in there for his career not just celtic years, his complete game contributions (defenese) make him a hof, too much emphasis on scoring
bernard king was an amazing scorer and came back from serious injury but no
jojo to me should be close
chambers no
rodman hate clouds my mind  :-X

I agree (TP) ... Rodman honestly was one of the best defensive players to ever play the game, but my personal feelings about him blur my objectivity. I'm also highly biased when it comes to DJ, (who obviously got my vote). ;)

Nice list and I voted DJ but I think there are even more deserving players missing than the ones listed:

Artis Gilmore: the guy averaged 18.8 PPG, 12.3 RPG and 2.4 BPG over his 17 year basketball career. 4 times he led the ABA in rebounding and twice he led the ABA in FG%. He led the NBA in FG% 4 times. He was an 11 time All-Star between the 2 leagues. He was also an ABA MVP, ROY, ASG MVP and Playoffs MVP. He was all ABA 1st team and ALL ABA Defensive 1st team 5 times. 12 times in his career he played in every game that season.

Sidney Moncrief - his stats of 15.6 PP, 4.7 RPG and 3.6 APG don't tell you just how great Moncrief was. He was a 5 time All-Star, 2 time Defensive Player of the Year(while simultaneously averaging 20PPG, 6 RPG and 4 APG). He was NBA All Defense 5 time(1st team 4 times, 2nd team 1 time) and ALL NBA 5 times(2nd team 4 times, 1st team 1 time). Moncrief was a close to a shut down SG defensively as you will find at his best and he played against some of the greatest SGs in NBA history.

Moncrief!!  great pick, deserves the hall but again its become to offensive stat orientated
gilmore (former c!) was a load, guy planted himself down on post no one could move him, I assumed he was already in...maybe it was the burns & crazy goatee?

TP.

Artis and Sidney definitely deserve some recognition.

Gilmore was a mountain of a man..really strong in the post.

It's too bad the only version of Arthritis Gilmore we got was the fossilized version of him in 1988...  Funny, but Larry was quoted as saying Gilmore had the worst set of hands he had ever seen on a guy - that you had to look at him and throw it right to him (nothing fancy) or he'd never catch it.

Loved his sideburns, though... :)

I like the Moncrief shout-out, Nick.

Definitely one of my old-school favs even though I really was too young when he was in his prime.

Dennis Rodman, The best rebounder in history, one of the best defenders of his time, worked hard left everything on the court.

-5 NBA Championships

-2X defensive player of the year

-7 rebounding championships (consecutive)

Phil Jackson said that Dennis was the best player he ever coach because of his work ethic, and it is a shame he is not in the hall of fame because of his off the court issues, which should not have a large influence for what he did in a game. It is the basketball hall of fame not the citizen of the decade.
