Poll: Ray Allen for Kevin Martin

Ray for Martin, Nocioni and Udrih? I would take it any day. Ray is a good player and a better person. I like Ray a lot but if the opportunity like this knocks at Celtics door, Danny should grab it with both hands. And the previously suggested trade, involving Salmons and Thomas for Scal,TA,House,JR and Walker, if its out there should be done without any hesitation. I know we'll be intaking lots of big contracts,thus making us financially inflexible to execute any further trades in the future but who needs one when our roster will look like this?

Key Benifits:

1. Our new starting five won't have any problem whatsoever putting the ball in the bucket.
2. Doc will have plenty of different line ups to experiment with. The one that stands out could be the speedy line up featuring Garnett,Thomas,Pierce,Martin and Rondo. IMO this could be the best fast break offensive line up in the league. Playing Thomas at SF and Pierce as SG will add length to solve their rebounding problem.
3.Old legs of Garnett, Pierce and Wallace will get much needed rest.
4.Depth in all positions will provide insurance incase of injuries.
4. Elite ballers like Lebrons, Kobes and Wades of the league will have a hard time scoring if the defensive bodies like Thomas,Nocioni and Marquis are thrown at them.
5.Last but not the least, we will have Rondo,Martin and Perk as our core players for future.

Kevin Martin is an awful defender, significantly worse than Ray Allen. On top of that, he is injury prone.

When we took Ray on, he had a rep as a sieve defender, and was coming off of his second ankle surgery, on top of that he was 32. Let's not pretend a Thoroughbred is a donkey here with Martin..the kid is 26 and has had 1 major injury. This is a no brainer.

People are way too obsessed with this trade Ray notion.  Yes he's getting older, but he's been the healthiest guy on the team this season.  Trading him for a younger, injury prone player doesn't make sense.  Remember, youth does not equal healthy.  See Greg Oden and Blake Griffin. 

Secondly, this notion that the only way ever get value for the Big Three is to trade them is tragically flawed, mostly due to Mr. Ainge's distortions or obliviousness (I highly doubt the latter).  The C's can get as good of value, if not better, holding on to the Big Three and letting them expire together, clearing massive amounts of space.  They then can either sign free agents or take on contracts in trades after that.

I think that is the Celtics best strategy if they fail to find a suitable Ray Allen trade. Lock in for the next two and half years and play the cards you have as best as possible. All while keeping cap flexibility for 2012.

If a trade like this ever did happen, I think a lot of people would come to appreciate Ray's defense.  Kevin Martin is one of the softest and laziest defenders in the league.

He's a great offensive player, he's young, and he's on a reasonable contract, so the Celts would have to pull the trigger here.  However, it would be a big downgrade on the defensive end (something I know that many of Ray's detractors don't find possible, but true all the same).

Ray doesn't exactly get lit up all the time by opposing two guards. You're letting Joe Johnson and Dwayne Wade color your perceptions, they're two of the best SGs in the league. (Dwayne is the best, Joe Johnson is probably top 4)

Ray Allen's opposing PER was down around 12 about 4-6 weeks ago.

It's 14.4 now. That's a quick and large increase and it's because he's been getting lit up with regularity recently.

It also makes me wonder whether Ray is suffering from some type of undisclosed injury. Big decline all of sudden. Odd. Nothing to base it on beyond that. He's looked healthy enough out on the court during games though so good chance it's not that.

I would do Ray for Martin, Udrih and an unprotected first rounder.  That's the price of letting Petrie out of his bad contracts.

They wouldn't, they'll be able to dump Martin and a bad contract while still getting a better draft pick or talent than what we can offer.

Ray is suffering from being a 34 year old shooting guard playing major minutes.  Ainge has not disclosed this to the press, however.
