Tired of hearing the "it's not an excuse, but" line along with the "when we're healthy for the playoffs" line not to be outdone by the " locker room chemistry" line over and over and over. These are cliches, and all they do is sugar coat reality.
Cold facts: The Cs are 7-8 over their last 15. They're not a good home team, and they're not a good rebounding team. Unless something changes they'll be hitting the golf course nice and early this year, and likely earlier each off-season over the next three or four.
One such change could be personel -- it's not the only potential change, but one that shouldn't be discounted. And if we're not just talking about this year but a couple of years to come there's simply no debate that an injection of NBA talent will be required -- unless you think the Cs ongoing fade in the 2nd half of games is a coincidence. This team is good, but it's old and it's shallow. The bench falls off a cliff. It's a weakness to begin with, and then when the bench become starters the team is not a legit threat.
Never has their been a better time for GMs of wealthy teams to take advantage of those from poor ones. If the Cs are serious about continuing to compete, Ainge needs to show his acumen by leaving no stone unturned in looking for a deal to make this team better. I hope he finds it.
Cold Facts: the magic are also 7-8, and are an even worse 3-7 over the past ten games while mostly healthy, so "getting healthy" is not an option.
Cold Facts: the Lakers are 4-3 since Kobe has started having back problems. They are also a mediocre 9-6 on the road, despite only facing 7 teams with winning records on the road.
Cold Facts: the hawks are also 7-8 in the past 15 games.
Cold facts: there are no realistic upgrades at any starting position that would make up for the loss of Garnett.
In other words, unless some other team is willing to give us a gift of "Gasol to the Lakers" magnitude, our future still depends on KG getting healthy.
I'd also like to add another cold hard fact: the Celtics have the best road record in the NBA with 16-5. The next best road records are the Lakers, 9-6, and those Mavs at 14-7. One hasn't played as many road games as the Celtics, the other as played the exact amount. Only the Cavs have won more than the Celtics on the road (17-8), but they have more losses. That's our "cold" reality.
So, what's to worry about so far this season? That we MIGHT not get the #1 seed in the East, even though it's still in our grasp? OH NO. We can't win on the road an-, wait, yes we can! We've been doing it
all seasonOk, anyways, it's already been said that KG's been rested to try and avoid what happened last year. When he comes back, we're already better off than if we get some backup PG in a buyout. Then, there's our backup "point forward" in Daniels. We get him back, our bench may just flow better again, and suddenly we have our top 10 coached by a guy named who Doc uses 9 guys in his rotations.
I think we'll be fine.
(And TP to you dpin for your post I quoted.)
