Is it just me or has Ray Allen changed the form on his shot this season?

It seems as if he's trying to be more efficient with this movements and thus conserve some energy in his shot but it seems like it is effecting the results of his shooting.

Has anyone else noticed that his shot looks slightly different this season?

It would definitely explain why he's not hitting as many 3's this year.

Don't want to be a party pooper but erm... I have no idea man. Looks pretty much the same as it's always done. He just seems a bit more streaky than usual, as well as less regular streaks. That said, I think his shot looks the same, especially that forward leaning jumper in the lane.

Why would one of the greatest shooters ever change his form?  Makes no sense.  He just hasn't been making them.

I've not noticed anything, but I'll definitely pay attention to it tomorrow.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I don't think Ray has been shooting poorly lately at all.  In December and January, he's hitting 39.2% of his threes.  That's pretty much exactly his career average.

I haven't noticed a change in form, either, but I'll pay more attention.  As others have said, I'd be surprised if Ray was changing his form after all this time, but who knows?

I think the biggest issue with Ray right now, is certainly not his shooting form, but how often he gets to use his shooting form.

I dont think Ray Allen is getting enough touches. As a shooter who is a scorer, its important to get him touches and to keep him in a rhythm. He needs to get more easy buckets, especially at the start of the game and at the start of the 3rd quarter. He needs the ball in his hands a little more than he currently is.

Seems like the only time Ray gets a look is when he is running around dozens of screens. His offensive abilities are under-utilized, and they dont go to him consistently enough.  He can do more than just run around screens, even at this stage off his career, and when all he does is get touches every once and a while, he cant establish a rhythm.

The most important thing for a shooter who is a scorer, is establishing a rhythm. I would like to see him get the ball in different places all around the floor, and not just off of wide screens, or after a dribble penetration-dish out.

If I was in Doc's position, I would make it a rule, that the first 4 shots of the game, go to Ray Allen, (obviously you wouldnt pass up a wide open layup, to honor the rule though). Because if you can get the best shooter in the League in a rhythm, or even into a zone, to start a game, then your starting off on the right track for the rest of the night.

In summarization:
Ray Allen needs more touches
Ray needs a variety of touches, not just him running off of screens
Ray needs to be the offensive focal point for the first 4 offensive possessions of a game.

Same form...Consistent percentage...No problem.

The only thing is that this team goes through horrid streaks of isolation basketball. With no ball movement, and no inside out game, Ray's touches go way down. Thats the only problem I have witnessed.

I'll add to that for the season he's shooting around his overall career average and career efficiency.

Ray had a career year last year as far as shooting goes, yet people are still freaking out about his shooting because his numbers are "down".

His declining rebounding and defense are my concerns.

I'd like to see Ray play less minutes, and do more in those minutes.  Take more shots, put more effort on d and the boards, etc.  I find it foolish when he's out there for 40 minutes in some games.

Agree, completely.

Thats why i posted earlier, that i think Doc should dedicate the first 4 or 5 offensive possessions to Ray, and get him going early and often. I mean he is only the best shooter in the League. (Steve Nash is right there also)

He didn't change his shot, he changed his game this season, he finally understands that he doesn't HAVE to shot the ball alt the time, so he is driving the lane more. He's such a terrific driver and I love him going inside more than Pierce cause he ALWAYS gets something out of it.

Ray's last 10 games he's only shooting 32% from threes but that's just 10 games and just about every great shooter goes below average for ten game stretches during every season they play in

He is shooting almost 53% from inside the arc and almost 91% from the charity stripe which is fantastic

I thought I read in an article written about Eric Gordon that the only player 2-guard with a better true shooting percentage(58.3%, I think) averaging more than 16 points per game than Gordon in the league was Ray Allen

His form doesn't appear different

It's still a thing of beauty

Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

I'm not sure if cutting his minutes will let him do much more, I don't think fitness or fatigue are the reason Ray's numbers are declining. He's just getting old.

Still once Marquis gets back I think Doc will be able to reduce his minutes more.
