that list is the absolute argument for doc.. absolutely perfect.. Ladies and gentlemen there was a reason that he was picked 47th in the draft and there is a reason he doesnt play.. HES JUST NOT THAT GOOD!! its plain and simple

How can you form an opinion on Billy Walker?? The kid played 7 mpg last year (29 games) and 4 mpg this season! And, if you don't trust him enough, how can you transform him in an trade asset if he doesn't play??

I have seen enough of him to see that he still has some major holes in his game.  Have you seen enough to be able to tell that he deserves to play over anyone else on the roster?  I really doubt it.

And playing a guy who is not very good does not build trade value.

just curious whos minutes bill walker is going to take? He is not a rotation player for a championship caliber team right now

He simply will not get the minutes to develop. Doc doesn't play youngsters. Billy had 7 mpg last year (29 games) and 4 mpg this season (3g). And he was a 40's pick in the Draft so he doesn't comand the same respect/credit from a coach. The problem is not Billy's talent, it's Doc mentality.

Have to agree Gomes, Perk, Rondo.... All only played when there was no other option.

that said the Cs are a difficult rotation to crack. The only thing that Billy can do is get his head down and work his ass off.

Revisionist history.  Gomes played very early in his rookie season, was terrible, and then got his second chance once injuries hit the team hard...although Doc did go on the record before the injuries forced his hand that Gomes would be playing more soon.

Rondo had a relatively normal progression for a rookie.  He barely played early in the season as he learned the system, and then as he got for familiar, he got more minutes, and then finally, when they started really tanking, he got big minutes.

Perk gradually played more and more over a number of years, and there was a clear learning curve.  He clearly was not ready his first few years, but as he got older, he learned how to use his body, and how to play, and that earned him minutes.  He started playing even more minutes as he learned how to not foul.

Sooo not true Gomes played double the minutes he got in his second season but had done good for his rookie season.

Rondo normal in to an extent but Delonte was often preferred.
Perkins I agree with to a degree.

Ther are a couple of other considerations one being that the whole groups was young at that point and the vets like Raef and Wally spent a lot of time on the  treatment table hence the forced toplay the kids scenario

Whats really interesting is Scal was around all that time and and did not play that much but now is being seen as a viable option which I don't think he is.

Bottom lineDoc played the kids when he was forced to or when he had no other options i.e when the team was predominantly kids

It looks like Bill has put on some pounds, and that's not a good thing.

I don't remember it that way

I remember Doc waffling on the Delonte West, Rajon Rondo, Sebastian Telfair three headed monster at PG and constantly benching the player that was starting because they weren't playing well

I remember Perkins being so fat and out of shape and foul prone it took him years to displace a beat up, outside shooting, attitudinal Raef LaFrentz

I remember Walker coming in and being the starter during Al Jefferson's rookie year because he could score consistently and play defense within a system and that Al's second year he was awfully inconsistent, foul prone and then hobbled by a bad foot so Ryan Gomes was given chances because of all these reasons and because at the time Gomes was a PF without an outside shot that could consistently rebound, something that Big Al couldn't consistently do at first
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

No, it't not.  He looks like a short power forward or center.  The weight isn't going to make it easy to guard 3's.

The difference between the young guys that the Celtics had then and have now, when given a chance, those guys earned a spot in the rotations.

(even Gomes.  They tried him early in the season as a SF, a position he was still learning, and he struggled himself to the bench.  When injuries forced them to put him at PF, he earned himself a rotation spot)

Doc said at today's practice that he intends to play JR or Billy in the next games to rest Pierce a little bit :

Quote
"We don't need that," said Rivers. "I'll play Billy [Walker] or JR, one of them, just to get Paul some more rest. The last couple games, we've had foul trouble, and Paul's had to stay on the floor. I don't mind a couple 40-minute games from our guys, because you know you're going to make it up. In the New Jersey game, he didn't play that many minutes, but we still want to avoid [40-minute games]. If there's two or three in a week, that's too much.
