Tmac for Iggy and Dalembert?

Sources tell ESPN that the Sixers have not completely ruled out a Tracy McGrady-for-Andre Iguodala deal. The Sixers are contemplating a fire sale if their losing persists.

Talks between the two teams have taken place but they have not reached the serious stage. Philadelphia hinted at a package of Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert for McGrady.

Interesting.  If nothing else, this shows that Philadelphia really doesn't have any direction to speak of.  Things aren't working out with Iguodala as the leader of the team, so I understand why they're looking to rebuild, but it's got to be disheartening for Philly fans to potentially lose yet another "face of the franchise" type of guy for basically nothing.

As for Houston, I'm not sure about an Ariza/Iggy combo going forward.  If Yao was off the team, I'd like it a lot more, but so long as you've potentially got an all-star big man there, you need to play a half-court offense.  That's a system that Iguodala struggles in to some extent.

True, but by the time Yao is healthy, they could move Iggy. More importantly, Yao won't be playing this season, nor will McGrady be playing for Houston. With LA showing some serious health concerns with their 2 best players, Houston might want to improve their ceiling for this year.

I'm not as optimistic that they'll be able to move Iguodala because of his fairly hefty contract.  You never know, I guess, but I get the sense that Iguodala is getting the reputation of a third-fiddle being paid superstar dollars.

Dalembert and Iggy would certainly help their team this season, though, and as you say, that may be reason enough to make the deal.

It's definitely a talent upgrade.  The issue is, is Iguodala the type of guy you want on your cap for the next 4.5 seasons?

Not really true -- he only has one year left on his deal and they could sure use some size.

As I pointed out in the 'teams looking to get under the lux tax' thread, this deal could put Houston under the luxury tax, making taking Sam D that much more attractive. McGrady, Cook & Dorsey for Iggy & Sam would do it. That alone saves Houston about $7mil this year.

The bigger question is: can Trevor Ariza play the 2 consistently.

I'd much rather have Iggy than TMac, but I still don't think I'd pull the trigger if I'm Houston.  Iggy is redundant with Ariza, nobody want Dalembert.  The Rockets are doing OK now, I don't even think the trade will improve them much this year.  I'd wait for something better, or just wait til TMac's contract is up, then they'll be rich.  They'd be much better with a Boozer/Bosh/Amare type power forward or a star guard than a small forward.

I think Houston's best move is to gamble with a trade for Bosh.  They'll have his Bird rights and be able to overpay him as a superduperstar if they choose.  He gives them a legit, athletic big man.  He's a local, they should be able to sell him on re-signing.  If they can't, they should be able to arrange a sign-and-trade and at least recoup SOME talent.

But what would Toronto want from Houston? They're not good trade partners. T-Mac's deal doesn't do anything for them -- why not keep Bosh's expiring deal and use him in a sign-and-trade? Someone like Aaron Brooks is a nice player, but that's not going to get it done.
