Fantastic deal for Lakers.  Whilst Bynum has progressed, it has taken him a number of years.  He is not a good post defender, not a good shot blocker strong or weak side, and he is very foul prone.

Offensively is where most of the improvement has come. Yet Bosh is lightyears ahead of him at this stage.

Question for the salary cap people. If the Lakers picked up Bosh, how could they possibly retain him over the offeason? They would not gain bird rights from half a season would they? Also what kind of luxery tax would they have to pay for a team with Gasol, Artest, Odom, Kobe and Bosh. Doesn't seem to make sense to me...

That frontcourt would be in the bottom 5 or 10 for the poorest trio.

The Bird rights that the Raptors have would follow him to LA.  So long as Bosh doesn't change teams via free agency / buyout, etc., his Bird rights continue to run.

In terms of luxury tax, it wouldn't be much more (if any more) than they're paying this year.  They can cut ties with any or all of Derek Fisher, Adam Morrison, or Jordan Farmar to free up over $10 million.  The difference between Bosh's salary and Bynum's is going to be about $4 million, so they would be fine.

I don't think they'd really care about their cap situation. Bosh would be worth it for them, Jerry Buss is the type of dude to pay for multiple titles, he isn't that other LA owner, that's for sure.

They'd still go out and spend their MLE on the best player they can get every year. Bosh/Kobe/Gasol would be really scare, add Artest and Odom on that and good God. I might don't think I could handle it.

I hope this doesn't come to fruition. Might be some solace in the fact that most times trade rumors come out early, they never happen. For our title chances, it had better not go down.

Wow I cant believe Morrison is in the NBA and still making 5 million. Oh high draft picks! Although your scenerio would be valid, it would leave them with 1 pg on their roster (shannon Brown). Say what you will about how stacked the rest of their team is, they would really lack in guards. You can't ask Kobe to take over the ball handling duties, defend the best player on the opposing team and score 30 points. Granted he may not need to score so much with Bosh, Gasol and others, but I have a hard team seeing him giving up shots. I think that kind of team is one that sounds a lot better then it would actually perform. Bosh and Gasol are awful defensive players down low. You cant win an nba title with a random vet pg making the minimum. The team would remind me more of the Kobe, Malone, Payton and O'neal experiment then anything else. Maybe Im just trying to talk myself into this, but rarely do all star teams on paper perform as good in reality. Think yankees last 8 years before this one....

Excellent trade for Toronto too. The certainty of Bynum is better than the uncertainty of Bosh. Plus I think Bynum will fulfill a lot more of his potential in a situation where he's allowed to be the hub of the offense. Once he has that scoring opportunity, I think he'll start to improve the other areas of his game over time.

Isn't Bynum a BYC player? Wouldn't more have to go Toronto's way than just Bynum, salary cap speaking wise?  Something like Morrison and Farmar or Walton and Brown?

Plus he would be a great fit next to Bargani who is pretty much a clone of Dirk Nowitzki or close to it. Bargani from the outside, Bynum on the inside.
