Quote
Peyton Manning became the first player to win The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player honors four times.

The Indianapolis Colts' sensational quarterback romped to the award Saturday in balloting by 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He got 39½ votes to 7½ for Drew Brees as only quarterbacks received any backing. . . .

The other votes went to San Diego's Philip Rivers with two, and Minnesota's Brett Favre with one.

I think the voters got this one right.

All the negativity in this town sucks. It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks. - Rick Pitino

Yeah, pretty much a no-brainer this year.

That Indy team is nowhere near the playoffs if Peyton isn't around.  He's had a great year although I think he'll come up ringless this season.

Why? If you remove him and put a replacement level running back behind that line they'd lose a few more games but still would have a very good running attack.

Only 6 running backs in the history of the NFL have rushed for 2,000 yards.  It's quite a feat.  You think somewhere in there, that someone would've tossed him a vote or two.  Not winning it by any means but a vote.

Yeah, I don't know I just think its hard to give it to a running back. They're one of the most easily replaced positions.

That does seem to be the case in today's NFL in regards to RB.

I really think that's always been the case. You need to have talent at that position, but its much harder to get great Guard or Tackle. And you absolutely need two good to great lineman to be able to run/pass protect.

I think he was the most impressive player this year.  I think that is enough to garner a vote or two.  And as Dons pointed out, I didnt say he should win, but a vote or two I thought would have been expected.

Chris Johnson not getting a single vote is disappointing. He broke the single-season yards from scrimmage record and rushed for more than 2,000 yards. Add that to 11 straight 100yd games. That's an amazing season.

I guess I just don't see it as a no-brainer for Peyton. He was really good this year, as he is every year, but for it to be such a runaway is a little ridiculous...NO was great all year long, too, so Brees should have garnered more votes. The Vikings really excelled this year with Favre and of course Johnson was outstanding. In the cases of Brees and Favre, it's almost as if they were penalized for end of the year games, that didn't really count (while Peyton wasn't even playing) and in the case of Johnson, the Titans would have had to make the playoffs...I don't know, the way the voting went just rubs me the wrong way.
