McGrady Trade

Throughout his career TMAC has been good in the playoffs.  But in recent years his teams play much better without him.  Without TMAC, his teams are tougher, hustle more, and are more unselfish.

I would do this trade IF...

We added in Giddens and a draft pick or two, then had Houston agree that their intent is to buyout Ray. Then we resign him and we're back to the same team plus an injury prone allstar to work in as our 6th man.

I tell ya...my gut tells me no to this,but Id think twice.... thats the kind of maneuvering mentality we'll need. I have a feeling since dannyay was contemplating AI off the bench, theres gonna be a move out there.  Can't wait to see how this plays--

Why would anybody want a guy who tanked to get traded and plays when he feels like it?

There's a reason Adleman doesn't want him.

Houston isn't trying to pinch pennies here, they are in the middle of the playoff race in the West.  They are only going to trade McGrady if it makes the team better.  They would jump at the opportunity to add Ray, and would never buy him out after trading for him.

As for the Ray for McGrady deal, no thanks.  We would be taking on more money for an inferior player at this point in his career, who can't stay healthy.

He is if you're giving up Ray and you don't even know if he can play. If you could get Arron Brooks or Battier or something to make it worth the risk. But it seems like too much of a risk for a championship squad to take.

McGrady is averaging 3.2 points a game. Ray is averaging 16.2 on a team where he is arguably the 2nd option after Pierce or 3rd when Rondo takes over or if KG is hot. Ray has the potential for  20 a night but we're to stacked, and McGrady can't even score twice in HOUSTON!

I wouldn't do this trade but people get a little ridiculous when they are comparing Tmac to AI. I don't understand why if someone doesn't like a certain player they just lump them into the same group and say that they will never win are selfish, make the team worse etc etc. Are Tmac, AI, Nate Robinson, Stephon Marbury, zach Randolph really the same people? I just don't get it. If Tmac had reached the second round every year or western conference finals would people want him all of a sudden? Do people think Dirk Nowitski (sp) is a terrible player because he can't win a championship? At least he had tons of talent on his team and should have won but he didn't so I guess he will just never win like everyone else. Apparently every great player in the NBA has won an NBA championship, i must have missed that memo.

Basically I think that if people don't want a certain player they should state actual reasons instead of bogus corny cliches. A simple Ray is better than Tmac statement seems pretty simple, i just find it really weird when people act like these guys aren't even good enough to be a 12th man on our team

I don't think people are saying they're not good enough. But as you saw with KG, Ray, and Pierce - they were all great players, great personal stats but they saw that the only way to win was to sacrifice personal stats for the betterment of the team.

AI consistently shows himself as a me-first, stats guy. Even when the Pistons had won a few games with him coming off the bench (they were on a losing streak with him starting and Rip coming in), he still couldn't see the benefit and quit on his team. Same with Houston, the team is surprisingly good without TMac and Yao, but instead of going forward with limited minutes and finding a way to fit without disrupting chemistry, TMac demands more minutes and leaves his team when he can't get his way. That is selfish, point blank.

Those aren't the type of players you want on a team who's motto represents TEAM play and sharing the ball.
