I like how you're comparing Marbury to Robinson has if Robinson's half the headcase Marbury is. Also, at least Robinson can still play, even if he is a very short SG.

I'm all for chemistry, cause that counts moreso than overloaded talent, but let's not berate Nate Robinson as if he's useless.

Well, I don't think anyone would want a 5'9 shooting guard. Even Earl Boykins doesn't have the stones for that kinda action.

But that said I think Robinson is just completely apples to oranges in terms of the risk reward he embodies.

Marbury was desperate to prove he could coexist with teammates. He wanted to show he could keep his mouth shut and play. He did that while he was with us.

Robinson is less crazy but I think a different kind of chemistry disruptor. He should've been trying desperately to stay in D'Antoni's rotation, this being his second consecutive contract year. Last summer he did not get pursued really, and had to settle for a 1 yr prove it contract at around 4 million. NY was never going to resign him this upcoming summer, but they needed his punch and his leadership this season to stay the appearance of competitive, and he needed to prove to other teams he could be a valuable piece, and show a more well rounded game.

He has done none of those things. So what kind of chemistry disruptor is Nate? Well he's obviously stubborn, and he's known to be a lockerroom handful. From what I've read, I wouldn't call him a cancer per say..he's more like a child with no idea how to settle down.

Do I think we could make good use of him? Well maybe. But why does NY trade him? He's already a 4 million dollar cap relief. If he gets too disruptive they can just send him home. The best they can hope for is draft picks, because it's pretty clear they're not taking on any more contracts.

Maybe Nate helps our second unit, but if it is at the expense of a great lockerroom guy like House's playing time, and probably roster spot, I'm not really on board. If it happens then I guess I could find a silver lining, and it might even work out, but I wouldn't pull that trigger.

Course I'm not the guy that makes such decisions. I just had a great opportunity to use a statue of liberty reference and make a contrived observation about how it is a coincidence that NY's cast off primadonna PG's think they have a home in Boston. Obviously we showed with Marbury that we can leave the baggage at the door if you (Nate) can, so it makes sense that Robinson would look to us.

Do we really want a punk like this on the C's? he is all about Nate. I don't think Nate and Rajon would get along very well in practices, so why disrupt the chemistry we have going. We are already dealing with one big personality off the bench with Rasheed we don't need anymore.

I think the C's should just sign Antonio Daniels. He is a pretty good backup PG and he could play alongside House because he has the size to guard shooting guards. Plus we wouldn't have to give up Walker and/or Giddens to acquire him.

No to Nate please. Besides the other issues listed here, he's shorter than I am. I hate to be heightist but he'd have to be a much better player and less of a little punk for me to overlook that.

He wants to come to Boston.

Ugh. I can only hope the interest is one sided. If he was bought out I'd have no problem with him being brought in, hell I talked myself into Marbury....

For those that like Nate, here's some reading for you:

Quote
Nate Robinson is, in his humble opinion, "Nate the Great."

And then there was the embarrassing moment three weeks ago when he tried to bounce the ball off the floor and dunk it against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a play that was ruled a travel and made the Knicks look like an undisciplined group of street-ballers.

Robinson's explanation was as peculiar as his decision to attempt the dunk in the first place.

"That's why they call me Spontaneous Nate," he said.

Spontaneous, yes. Great? Not quite. And now Robinson has a new nickname: Instigator. His role in Saturday's Knicks-Nuggets fight cannot be underestimated. Instead of pulling Mardy Collins away from J.R. Smith and allowing the referees to intervene, Robinson went after Smith and ended up fighting with the Denver guard and spilling into the front row.

Robinson and Carmelo Anthony figure to receive lengthy suspensions because both were responsible for escalating the situation.

After the game, Robinson said he did not regret his actions and made the stunning revelation that Collins' flagrant takedown was not only "a good, clean hard foul" but that it was premeditated.

"For what they did as in keeping guys in, I knew a foul was going to come," Robinson said Saturday. "A hard one because we're not going to let guys keep dunking when they're up 20 and they have their starters in. It was a good clean hard foul. After that, it went downhill from there."

Robinson later added: "They wanted to embarrass us. It was a slap in the face to us as a team and a franchise and we weren't going to let that happen."

Clearly, Robinson forgot what he did against Cleveland or what he said after the game upon hearing that Isiah Thomas told the media that Robinson would not try that dunk again. Robinson agreed but quickly added he would try it only if the Knicks are "ahead by 20."

Since Robinson joined the Knicks last season as a throw-in in the Kurt Thomas-Quentin Richardson trade, he has become a fan favorite because of his incredible athletic ability. Many of the Knicks' marketing campaigns involve Robinson. Last week, the Knicks handed out life-sized posters of the diminutive second-year player. Robinson's popularity soared last year when the 5-9 guard won the slam dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in Houston and peaked again at the Garden this season when he blocked a shot from Yao Ming.

But to teammates and coaches he also can be the annoying little brother who talks too much and can't control his emotions. Larry Brown tried to get Robinson sent to the Developmental League last season, only to be rebuffed by management.

Before the Knicks' home opener last month, MSG Network recorded Robinson outside the locker room posing and dancing for the cameras. Teammates tried to stop him but Robinson continued dancing. Robinson also has earned a reputation as a bench jockey who trash-talks to players on the floor. He also has been criticized by teammates for, ironically enough, showboating.

Last year, Robinson was involved in two fights with teammates. He went after Jerome James with a broom during a practice and then had to be separated from fighting Malik Rose in the shower. The shower fight prompted a veteran teammate to give Robinson another nickname.

"That's just Nate," the Knick said. "He's a jerk."

Link.

Robinson also has a well-earned reputation as a ball hog, as Peter Vescey and Bill Simmons point out below:

Quote
"I can't recall anyone so diminutive at the pro level so infuriatingly one-dimensional. Even compulsive scoring Calvin Murphy averaged 4.4 assists during his 10-year career, going slightly over seven twice. I mean, nobody loathes sharing the sphere more than Earl Boykins, yet he's accidentally conceived 3.3 assists per over eight seasons.

"Robinson's numbers are downright Yinka Dare-ish. But at least the 6-foot-10 Yinka (R.I.P.) didn't have the ball in his hands 90 percent of the time."

And here's ESPN's Bill Simmons, who in a recent rant lumped another former Rainier Beach star into the calumny:

"Not only is there a good chance that no Knicks player will finish with more than four assists a game, but two of the biggest ball hogs in recent NBA history (Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford) might crack a combined 4,500 minutes this season without notching 350 assists combined. Did you know Robinson has played 16 games and 343 minutes and dished out 24 assists total? He's a point guard! He's 5-foot-7!!!! How is this possible?????"

So, let's see.  His coach is irritated with him, his teammates hate him, and he's a ball hog.  Sounds like somebody who would buy into Ubuntu to me.

To all those who wanted Iverson- Robinson is a is a better player at this point.  Neither are team players.  He'd add great energy but I still don't think I'd go for this style of player.

How come nobody has posted this yet:

Nate Robinson wanst to be traded to the Celtics!

Quote
Robinson does want out, and a source close to the Robinson camp tells ESPN.com there's one place the former slam-dunk champion would truly like to land if a trade can be worked out: Boston.

If that can't happen, Robinson wants a buyout, believing he will be able to sign with one of the top contending teams in the league, including the Lakers, Cleveland and Orlando -- the thinking being that he can provide the instant offensive boost for any of those teams that he once provided for the Knicks.

I would rather have him here than in L.A., Cleveland or Orlando. Giddens + Williams for Nate?

It seems that how well we play in games this season has always been about focus (or sometimes, lack of). I don't see how bringing Nate Robinson is going to improve (or even maintain) our team's focus during the season.

RJ87 posted it on the first page of this thread.

I'm not worried about Robinson going to a contender, he's a black hole who lacks the size and discipline to be effective on defense.

We definitely should not trade a serviceable bench big man for him.

I actually would like the idea of Nate coming to Boston. Could bring the ball up for us, The only thing is where does Eddie go? I am thinking i could deal with him not being here. So i guess we will see in the coming days. Could be a scary lineup of

Nate
Tony
Daniels
BBD
Sheed

That is a very scoring, fast, and get to the rim team.

If the Knicks can go on a winning streak without him playing in the games I dont think he would crack the rotation here...Just a thought.
