i dont know if it's more ridiculous to say Nocioni makes sense for the Cs or to say Jeffries is a great defender

both seem utterly ridiculous. celts must be playing well if this is what we are chatting about

clearly you weren't around in 06 where we debated the values of will bynum or allan ray for the 15th spot on the team....

Too bad we didn't take Will Bynum, huh?  Though I guess he had to go play in Israel to become a good player.

Not a Jeffries fan, so...no.  He's a longer Scal, but without the reliability, for twice the money for more years.  Makes no sense.  I don't think they'd have enough sweetener to add to any deal for such a marginal player.  Some comments here would make you think he's Tayshaun Prince or something.  Not even on a good day, folks.

I hope somebody does it, though, since NY would offer the 2nd max deal to Bosh, thus assuring their continuing losing ways for another 5 years.

I'd much rather take Nate Robinson from the Knicks than Jefferies. Or trade for Nocioni.

Only Nocioni and Nate Robinson to me are WORTH considering for a trade. The fact you want TA's expiring contract wasted on someone like Jefferies is hilarious. Let's forget the fact that TA's actually been playing lately; this trade does not help the C's short-term, and since there is no long term, there's no point to it from the C's perspective. End of story.

To say that Nocioni is a spotty defender at best, and that Jeffries is both a great defender, and has some offensive skill...well, let's just say I am not on the same page with you.

Jeffries is a pretty terrible basketball player.  He is a horrendous perimeter player on offense, and has no low post game either.  Basically, his only offensive skill is being really long, so he can finish wide-open layups.  And defensively, while he does some things well, he is by no means a great defender.  He has made a lot of money off of one playoff series where he played pretty good defense. Now, he is someone I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, unless we were getting a major asset in return.

Nocioni is a flopper, he's not terrible, but he's not as good as Jefferies is defensively.  I agree he's overpaid and was a terrible signing by the knicks, but his play this year has resulted in the knicks recent winning steak(s).  THe knicks lost to charlotte a few nights ago because he fouled out, the dude was flirting with a 5/5/5/5/5 night.  He'd be an immediate upgrade over the guys we're giving up because his length allows him to cover guys like Lebron, Odom, and Rashard Lewis.

I'll back off my previous statement of his proported offensive skill, but his abilty to guard long 3's and 4's is greatly needed on this team with Daniels being injured(and being injury prone).  Since Danny doesn't want to clog up cap space long term with Nocioni's contract, one year of jefferies might be a wise move.

You're right that Jeffries is a slightly better defender than Nocioni, but Nocioni is a SIGNIFICANTLY better offensive, and overall player.

And I think it is important to note that the an extra $7 million on the books next year could be huge, because they are going to have to resign Allen and House, and replace Daniels, Williams, Tony Allen and Giddens.  That $7 million on the books could prevent them from using their entire MLE and giving paying what it takes to keep Allen and House.
Not to go off topic but while I agree with you that extra $7 mill could hamper the team's efforts to sign players next year, I don't think House is one of those players.  Ray will be resigned but I think Daniels and Williams will split the MLE to come back-->will each get too much of an increase to not have to use the MLE to resign them.

Of couse that depends on how Daniels recovers from surgery and if BBD doesn't totally displace Williams from the rotation.
