I have already been saying I need some more Perk.

At least 30 minutes a game.

I want Perk to get more minutes, and in crunch time too.  He's been great defensively, and his low post game is really improved.  I'm all for giving Perk more touches down low.

Perk is the most pleasant surprise for me this year ... I was seriously ready to trade him two summers ago, then last year he improved, and though I still had reservations, I no longer wanted to cut him loose ... but this year he's like a new man - losing weight, in better shape, moving faster, running the floor, quicker feet, not showing the ball to the defense or putting it on the floor before laying up, blocking shots like crazy - he's becoming a monster center and we would be very foolish to let him go. Like I said, I was ready to toss him two years ago, but now I just plain love the guy!

I echo those statements but the only thing I can add is..man I do not want to see his price tag when we resign him.

Yeah ... well-said and very true ... his improvement is certainly going to cost us. ;)

I reemmber when we resigned him I was saying "well if perkins is worth 5 million then...(something about how everyone else is underpaid)

He's looking at 10 million a year minimum now, and he's only a year away, right? maybe 2?

I hope we give him an extension next year; something a little bit less than Rondo's (let's say starting around $8 mil and going up to $11 or $12).

That would be nice, but I'm afraid that after seeing Rondo's contract, he's going to want similar ... ugh!

I dunno if it were 5 to 8 years ago maybe Perk could get that money (think Eric Dampier). I am not sure there will be a market for Perk to make that kind of money though. I think we can get him for less. If we do have to pay him though he certainly deserves it as he has worked very hard and shaped himself up to be quite the player.

Perk deserves more minutes and I believe he will get them as time goes on.

As for the money..I am in the belief of at least twice of what he is making per yr now (8Mil, with maybe incremental raises each yr afterwards).

He has certainly worked hard, is playing smarter, and still has 3-4 more years of getting better. Man's not even in his prime yet.

Give Cliffored Ray a raise, too....he has worked with Perk and other NBA Bigs from what I understand. Glad the C's have him.

Perk will easily get Rondo money when he resigns.  C's will most likely try to resign him after this year to keep him from getting a whiff of free agency where he'd certainly get more.

He's a young center that plays top quality defense and has developed some offensive moves.  Very few of those in the game today and even less appear to be on the horizon in the next few years.

I've thought for a while now that Perk was the best low post defender in the league. D. Howard is probably the best defensive big man but because he can cover a lot more area then Perk does. If you are looking at a player within 4 feet of the basket though I would take Perkins over anyone else. The guy has such strength and it's really hard to move him. He also is an excellent shot blocker as well. His offense is also very efficient and he would probably score a few more points if we really needed him to.

After every game lately, my twin asks is it time to re-sign Perk yet? I'd love to see Perk be a long-term Celtic. So many things I appreciate about him - his work ethic, his drive to improve his game, his consistency on the court, his commitment to defense, his no-nonsense attitude. He's one of the best centers in the league and he's only going to getting better. He's quietly having a great season and I hope his minutes will increase as we go along and also look to him a little more consistently on offense.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I am one of the biggest Perk fans around.  I have been a big Perk fan since his rookie year when I would tell anyone who would listen that Perk would one day be a top defensive center and more often than not, they would tell me that I was crazy.

Perk is very important to this team.  If you doubt his importance, look back at the 08 finals.  Games 1-4 and 6, Gasol and Odom were almost non existent in the paint.  Game 5, they were dominant in the paint.  The difference?  Perk's presence and his defense.

So much of what Perk does will never been seen or will never show up in the box score.  Everyone saw Ray's 3 point dagger down the stretch,  but not everyone saw that the reason he was so open to take that 3 pointer was because Perk had just set a monster screen on Wade to get him open. Perk may not score the points, but he sets a great screen to get his teammates open to score.  He may not grab the rebound, but he will box out so that his teammate has a clear path to it.

Perk has been THE most consistent Celtic so far this season.  He brings it every night and he brings it to practice as well.   You know you will get 100% from him every night.  And he does it all without complaining about touches or minutes or who is on the floor at the end, etc.  He does the dirty work without worrying about who gets credit.  Perk is the perfect role player and he plays his role perfectly!

As for his contract extension,  I really hope that Danny is fair with him.  He is making less than the MLE right now and is the biggest bargain among big men other than those on rookie contracts.  He deserves decent money and I really hope he gets it from the Celtics cause I want Perk to be a lifetime Celtic.

I love Perk.....

If Perk can get to the line every night like he did last night, he could literally be an all-star.

GREAT post, Fl, and I agree, (TP) ... very much like Pierce, much of what he does goes without recognition, and he's been so solid. Honestly, I was not happy with him a couple of years ago ... he just didn't seem to be making much progress, and his penchant for showing the ball to the defense was driving me crazy.

But much like playing an instrument is for me, most progress goes unnoticed, and it seems like you're learning in spurts, when it's really that diligence and daily grind that is slowly refining your skills. It seems like Perk has made these huge jumps in his game, when really he's just been at the grindstone all this time, and we're seeing it pay off in a big way.

I've become a huge Perk fan this year, and I have confidence that he'll get the money he deserves, (while I hope it's not overdone, for cap sake). ;)

I'm all for keeping Perk in the games a little longer, and Sheed a little less.  Even when offense is needed, I'll still take Perk over Sheed.  Just check the shooting percentages.

Yes, I'm very glad he broke his habbit of dribbling and showing the ball to the defense.  But I think some of Perks lack of progress in those years was due to nagging injuries.  He had the shoulder issues, and one year was a complete waste due to plantar fascitis.  He could barely move, but he didn't miss games.

Thank God the shoulder has not been an issue this year, (crosses fingers). As far as floor time, I would love to see Perk get more minutes ... Sheed is very effective on the post, but he uses it as a last resort, and jacks up the threes as his first option ... that makes me tense whenever he comes in. Perk can handle more minutes easily, and is such a force at both ends.

<3 Perk. Best player ever.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
