The Knicks do not own their own 2010 1st round pick.  Utah has it.

But even if they did, I wouldn't go near that trade.

Uh, that would be "$30M - $36M" (luxury tax) for two players who can't help.

Not a prayer, even if the Knicks DID have their pick.

Well then, that certainly changes things... I was trying to come up with a Len Bias like scenario where this aging championship caliber team added a top draft pick.

Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries are not rotation players on this Celtics team.

Yeah, but that wasn't the point.

Would you do this trade?

Curry, Jeffries and Danilo Gallinari

For

Ray Allen and Tony Allen

This is all done with the "wink wink" agreement that Ray Allen get's bought out and released to rejoin the Celtics.

The Knicks:

Pro - free's up an additional $17-20 Million for 2010.

Con - Losing a lottery pick. (but New york is impatient at this point anyway)

The Celtics:

Pro - Get a lottery pick for the future and expiring contracts for 2011 while being able to keep Ray Allen around. Saving around $5 million in both LT and salary this season

Con - Losing Allen's Bird-rights and taking on $15-18 million for 2011

Alright.... This could be appealing to some. Gallinari could start next year in place of Ray Allen (Move Paul back to the 2).

Gallinari? Hmm ... yes, I'd make that trade. Big fan of his.

The Knicks wouldn't need to waive Ray Allen for me to make that deal. Of course, that would the deal better though.

Really? I'd pass on this unless Allen was released. Would the Knicks make this deal?

Here's your len bias scenario:

Ray and our #1 to GS for Maggette, Ellis, a first rounder. Ellis is unhappy, and Maggette's deal is bad. So for taking it, we get their first.

I don't think the Knicks would ever agree to lose Gallinari in order to dump Curry and Jeffries.

The only exception is if they know something about Gallinari's back that we don't (Gallinari is playing more stiff and slow than I remember him).

I'm hoping that's not the case.

I was expecting him to be off this season ... so I'm not too off-put by Gallinari's play at the moment but it's definitely a concern.

I think they would... A Knicks fan could look at it like Curry, Jefferies and Gallinari for Bosh come next off-season after such a trade.

I wouldn't do this deal. Both Ellis and Maggette have long term contracts and I'm not a fan of Ellis's game (plus we have Rondo).

no way.  Not a chance.  In the Knicks position, they should be giving away players in an attempt to rid themselves of Curry's contract.  In other words... any team willing to step up with expiring contracts can probably have Curry + goodies.  You don't need to give them an allstar.

The Knicks would love to get rid of Curry's contract, because it would put them in a better position to sign multiple big money free agents in the offseason (to surround LeBron).

So you could basically give them Scal (3.5 mil), Tony (2.5 mil), Eddie, 2.8 mil and some combo of like... Giddens/Walker/Daniels and they would probably give you draft picks just to get it done.  No Ray Allen necessary
