We'd be adding $21 million in payroll for next season (plus a hefty additional amount in luxury tax).  That would put next year's payroll at $85 million -- i.e., the same amount as it's currently at -- before re-signing Ray, Daniels, Williams, House, or any other free agent.  There's no way the Celtics could afford all those players.  Also, we'd lose Ray's Bird rights, meaning if we wanted him back next year we'd have to waste our MLE.

Gallinari isn't worth all the dead weight on our cap.

The question is would it be in any way worth it to the Cs considering; a) the financial strain, b) the Knicks assets all suck (or have problematic injuries), and c) you’d be helping them sign Lebron, Wade and Bosh next summer?

It would be the same payroll next season with Ray gone for a high end prospect. He could be replaced using either Curry or Jefferies at the deadline. I think adding another high end prospect to go with Rondo and Perk would do wonders for 2012 recruiting.

Don't kid yourself about the temptation Lebron will feel to go to New York this summer. He is completely in love with himself, wants the spot light, not to mention a diehard Yankees fan. The team will also have a fresh slate so he can act like GM and tell Donny Walsh who to sign.

I'm not saying he's going, but you can't argue this would be doing the Knicks a MAJOR favor.

Unless we're getting top 10 to top 20 talent right now its not worth taking on that salary. The Knicks don't have that sort of talent. Giving up Ray makes it a completely awful idea.

The only awful idea was you posting in this thread because clearly you didn't read it. 

Please don't assume I didn't read a thread because I disagree with you, its rude and condescending.

Even with the buyout and waive "wink wink" we'd be losing Ray for a crucial amount of the season and for next year. We simply couldn't afford to pay him his market value with the payroll structure of the team. Others have pointed this all out to you.

But feel free to dismiss my opinion because "I didn't read the thread".
