How about we trade Tony Allen and JR Giddens for Rudy Gay?
I have read that Memphis is having a tough time agreeing to sign Rudy Gay to extension thus making him a restricted FA. I know that the Grizzlies don't want to pay him that big of a contract which they will because after the LeBron,DWade, Bosh, sweepstakes is over a lot of teams will be willing to pay him the money he wants or close to what he wants. Those teams that will make him the offer will have the cap room to sign him, thus the Grizzlies will then mostly be forced sign him or let him go. I'm figuring they will let him go due to the fact they have O.J. Mayo, Marc Gasol, Conley, possibly Thabeet to sign for the future.
That being said it probably won't happen. Although, think about it for a second. If they are afraid to lose Gay, why not trade him and at least get something for him? In Tony Allen, you get a slasher and a very good defender but injury prone. In JR Giddens you get a young player who has potential, but no idea how much with no playing time. If they pan out, you could sign them to a relatively cheap contract, if not you free up some cap space. That way they at least get something.
Now, for the Celtics if Rudy Gay's attitude doesn't mind coming off the bench for awhile(and eventually be a replacement for Pierce when he retires) this could work. This would be great for the future because then you can Rondo and Gay as the future for the Celtics.
Now how can the Celtics keep him? Well, the way I understand it is if we trade for him now we will retain his Bird rights thus making it so could go over the salary cap. If I am wrong please tell me.
