Colts-Saints SB = Cavs-Lakers Finals.  The NFL will find ways to make it happen. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Not really.

To me, the equivalent of a Cavs-Lakers Finals in the NFL would be Colts vs Giants.

Thankfully, it doesn't appear like that is a possibility right now.

I think that application of the"bobbling" rule is really stupid. It basically cost the Pats the game on a technicality. Also, I thought the initial spot sucked whether or not they moved it after a challenge (did that happen? I missed that part of the game).
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Rodney is right, Belichik just told his defense that he has no faith in them.

They're pros getting well compensated to play a game. They'll get over it.

This loss was one of the worst I can remember ... because we had it in hand, and just choked with a bad play call. We were in complete control of this game, and just let it slip away. I'm nauseous and getting a migraine. Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash ... wherever you are.  :'(

I don't think it's a technicality.  Where did he catch the ball?

They said on TV that the play was reviewed, but I didn't see any announcement or anything to that effect.

I think the major mistake was not going downfield on 1st or 2nd down.  That's where you go all out to win the game.

The underneath stuff is easier to defend.

Spread these type of of losses out over 20 years and now you guys know for one night what it feels like to be a Bills fan. Great to see Belichick get that smug look knocked off of his face.

That game felt like a real kick in the groin.  Sickening on multiple levels.

I hate when teams get a lead and quit doing what they did to get it to try to run out the clock.

The fumble at the goal line was biggest play of the game.  Easily bigger than not converting on the fourth down near the end.

I'm not sure, but I think that at the two-minute warning the play can not be challenged, and only the official can call for a review. They had already signalled that it was short ... and it was the right call, unfortunately. ;)

I keep trying to tell myself:  "We should have won this game.  We outplayed them for most of it.  We will still make the playoffs and we can beat them then."

But I just feel like this kills our momentum.  If we had won this game we'd go into the next couple of weeks feeling like we could beat anybody.  If we had then beaten the Saints, we'd be the #1 team in the NFL, on our way to a Superbowl.  Now, we're just a 6-3 team that has choked away some games we ought to have won.  I feel like we're no better off than the Steelers, even though for most of the game tonight we looked far better than the Steelers did against the Bengals.

Oh well, 12-4 is still possible, and once you get to the playoffs you never know what could happen.

Bill couldn't challenge the call because he had no timeouts left.

Even with timeouts, he couldn't have challenged at the two-minute warning.

I know Faulk caught it past the first down marker--and I never saw him bobbling the ball (though I don't doubt he was, I just never saw a replay with a satisfactory angle). I just feel like if you're across the line and in the process of securing the ball, as long as you end up with it, you should get it where forward progress was stopped. If you were running into the end zone and got tackled as you were crossing the line, and momentarily bobbled it as you were being tackled, but then re-secured it before you hit the ground, that would be a touchdown right? Those scenarios aren't identical but I feel like they should be treated the same.

I don't know. Its late. I didn't like the call. It seemed like an illogical rule to me.

  • Thank you Eddie!
This was basically the '06 AFC title game condensed into 4.5 minutes of football, minus the refs essentially handing the Colts the game with two atrocious calls.  Or, it could also be the Grady Little game v2.0, but the key decision more defensible (leaving Pedro in vs going for it on 4th and 2) and on a smaller scale.  I am really confused.
