...when KG was slow to get up from the alley-oop which he so amazingly converted?

I know I was.

Seriously though, I think until he's 100% Rondo should stop throwing him that pass. Tonight he (Rondo) made KG soar up higher and in between two defenders. That's 4 feet for KG to avoid for a smooth/soft landing.

Which leads me to thinking: does the risk honestly equal the reward?

I just find myself holding my breath when I feel they're maybe 2/6 on the season with the alley-oop play.

Tell Rondo to save the alley-oops for his dying minutes of the game when garbage time officially starts, and to avoid throwing them to the guy who's clearly not 100% (nor will he ever have the lift he had pre-injury) coming off major knee surgery.

Is anyone else with me here?

In case you somehow missed it tonight here's the clip:

Honestly, it happened so fast that I didn't have time to be concerned about it.  Had I realized what actually happened, I probably would have been worried too.

I don't mind the alley-oops though - they're a constant source of one or two buckets a game, and I think we're out of any real danger in regards to KG getting re-injured - anything that would hurt his knee now would hurt anybody's knee.  Just a gut feeling from watching him try to play through it last year, and watching him play this year.

As a random aside, it looked like Ray was trying to get Rondo to throw him an alley-oop later in the game, but Rondo realized it too late - it would have been awesome to see them connect on that.  I like seeing Ray dunk.

I hold my breath on every alley-oop with him, but that one especially.  Whew.

How is that slow to get up? I thought he got up quite fast.

it's kinda good for KG's confidence though.  The doctors keep saying he's fully healed and it's just a conditioning thing.  Every time he successfully throws one of those down has to be great for his confidence going forward.

I think the last game he got knocked down and when he jumped back up he had a fierce smile on his face and kept screaming, "I'm all right! ... I'm all right!" like a lunatic.  It reminded me of Robin Williams in "Hook" when he remembers he's Peter Pan and starts flying around everywhere... "I'm back!"...

TP for the topic. I knew what it was about before I opened it, just from reading the title.

Yes, I was very worried. I think he looks wobbly as hell.

Major knee surgery? No, don't think so.. And he got up pretty far on that dunk, if you pause in the right place his head looks like it was just below the rim. I don't think he's lost much athletic ability yet.

I was worried when he landed funny, though. Luckily he got up quickly and hustled back down the court. Absolutely disgusting dunk, though. Over and through two defenders.. so smooth.

Mone. No worry whatsoever. He slipped because he was thrown off balance by contact after the dunk. He landed on his heels and fell back on his butt. He was a bit tangled up and just had to get up quick from as prone a position as you can get up from. I just think the instant awkward position he had to get up from was the reason he looked to be getting up slow and I don't think it ever looked like his knee was in danger or the cause of any twists, turn or hard falls.

You can't sweat everything he does. He'll do what his game tells him to do and if something happens, it happens. It's the only way to fully recover mentally. Just play and do not worry otherwise you are going to be more apt to reinjure if you are trying everything you can to not reinjure it. You just can't do that to yourself mentally if you are an athlete.

I definently had a moment of breath holding when he lost his balance, but I think this is good for KG, it would give him confidence in the knee I would think.

Actually, this is a good answer for those Garnett-Bosh threads...KG can dunk over some defenders even if right now he's not 100% yet. Garnett is back, baby!!

I admit I was both excited and scared by the alley-oop. Call me superstitious but KG injured his knee against Utah last year so I thought "crap, here it comes again!!" before realizing he was OK and the play was just great (alley-oop ON the defenders :o).

Yea, I watched that clip probably 50 times by now.. Easily one of KG's best ally-oops. He took off from outside the half circle, got elbows rim level and just dunked inbetween two defenders who did not want to give up that basket. Even the catch was spectacular.. went up, turned his body and brought that down.

So nasty.

If the Celts were going to restrict him from doing any kind of play, they would sit him. Structurally his knee is supposedly healthy so let him do everything he usually does. He looked pretty strong last night. I was more encouraged by the play then woried.

Well I just saw how he fell and the way his knees started moving, and got real nervous.  I was then squinting at the screen watching his legs for the next 2 minutes to make sure his movement wasn't any different.

If the team is to be believed, there's no major structural damage to the knee.  If that's the case, there shouldn't be a major risk of injury from pushing himself.  That being so, I think Rondo should treat him like the "old KG", and continue to try to make plays.
