I agree here. If there's no risk of having the same injury (which seems the case...bone spurs don't pop back in when you land wrong), his injury risk on a given play is the same as anyone's. It was GREAT to see him get up like that after he's blown some dunks this year. Give him confidence that he can do stuff like that.

In a related note, it was nice as well to see him, in the first quarter, put the ball on the floor and blow by Boozer for the foul call. I know it's boozer, but good to see.

Back to injuries, it's pretty random what causes fluke injuries. For instance, I'm much more worried about him going out of his way to still goal tend after whistle shots. It's meaningless, and when you're not trying 100% like you are during a game play, injury chances increase. Remember TA's infamous injury?

He should hang onto the rim for a second when he dunks in traffic.

I definitely was, I was even a little angry at Rondo for throwing the pass. Then I realized he was fine and got over it, it's a good play, KG had a major advantage, you can't play timid, if there's a basket to be had you go for it.

I was. My initial reaction was "Whoa whoa whoa didn't KG get hurt against Utah last year? Is this some kinda joke, KG?"

I admit I was both excited and scared by the alley-oop. Call me superstitious but KG injured his knee against Utah last year so I thought "crap, here it comes again!!" before realizing he was OK and the play was just great (alley-oop ON the defenders :o).
i agree.. i was also thinking of KG injuring his knee in UTAH

To be fair KG was limping around on that knee for about a month and a half before that specific play.

Rationally, I have come to the conclusion that KG's knee is 100%, and he just needs to continue to build up strength in the leg (although will probably never completely regain his explosiveness).  But this does not stop me from cringing every time he goes up for an alley-oop.  Although this is one of the first times this season that he has gone up to try to dunk an alley-oop and not come up limping for a couple strides afterwards.  So I take that as evidence that his leg is getting stronger.

He should hang onto the rim for a second when he dunks in traffic.

He told the refs after the dunk that Fesenko (I think) hit him on the head.  That's probably why he landed so awkwardly.

It happened too fast for me to be alarmed; during the replay I realized how semi-dangerous it looked.  But it was great to see KG finish with a dunk on an oop.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I stopped holding my breath a long time ago. A couple games into preseason. The knee is fine, his conditioning not so much. He's not as explosive and you can see when he's tired out there. Hopefully that will all go away with time.

Yea, I watched that clip probably 50 times by now.. Easily one of KG's best ally-oops. He took off from outside the half circle, got elbows rim level and just dunked inbetween two defenders who did not want to give up that basket. Even the catch was spectacular.. went up, turned his body and brought that down.

So nasty.

Lets give Rondo some credit for the pass. Over Williams AND Millsap to where only KG could make the play, B-E-A-utiful. Rajon Rondo, the second best passer in Boston sports.

I was up cheering the dunk while at the same time screaming for an and one as there was definite contact. I thought Fesenko or Millsap(?was he the underneath man) or both hit him as KG appeared a bit sandwiched on the play.

But I guess if you are up 19 and are alley ooping on a team while at home the refs are going to swallow their whistles a bit to just get the blow out over with.

I was doing the opposite of holding my breath. It made me get out of my seat and say "Holy &%$#". Going up to get that and coming down with it in traffic? I thought it was 2008 for a second. Hes getting strooonnger.

If the Celts were going to restrict him from doing any kind of play, they would sit him. Structurally his knee is supposedly healthy so let him do everything he usually does. He looked pretty strong last night. I was more encouraged by the play then woried.

Agreed. I think this only further proves he's back. He can always use more conditioning after being out for a while, but I can't be discouraged by KG doing extraordinary things like that before he was injured.

But, Chris, don't you know that Bill Simmons has "a source" that says KG had staples in his knee?  Staples!   ::)
