It's an interesting comparison of the situation of the Big Three vs. the current big three. Many argue that Bias would have extended the career of the Big Three, and the article is saying Rondo will do the same thing.
There are two problems with the comparison in my mind. First, Bias was predicted to be an absolute mega-star, perhaps the best player in the league outside of MJ. He had the potential to dominate and to carry the Celtics. I don't think Rondo is at that level; even if he's a star, he's not a superstar.
Secondly, the argument is usually that Bias would have extended Larry's career, because Bias could have subbed in for him and given Larry more time to rest his various injuries. Instead, Larry was pushing himself to the end. Rondo, on the other hand, needs to share the court with the big three. In a way, Rasheed fills the potential Bias role as much as Rondo does, because he allows our aging superstar with injury problems (KG) to get more rest, without there being a drop off in talent.
Still, it's an interesting comparison.
