No offense to Rondo, but Len Bias was a once in a generation type player.  But, the comparison is not far off.  I wonder how Danny will bridge the gap, starting with this off-season and Ray Allen.

It's an interesting comparison of the situation of the Big Three vs. the current big three.  Many argue that Bias would have extended the career of the Big Three, and the article is saying Rondo will do the same thing.

There are two problems with the comparison in my mind.  First, Bias was predicted to be an absolute mega-star, perhaps the best player in the league outside of MJ.  He had the potential to dominate and to carry the Celtics.  I don't think Rondo is at that level; even if he's a star, he's not a superstar.

Secondly, the argument is usually that Bias would have extended Larry's career, because Bias could have subbed in for him and given Larry more time to rest his various injuries.  Instead, Larry was pushing himself to the end.  Rondo, on the other hand, needs to share the court with the big three.  In a way, Rasheed fills the potential Bias role as much as Rondo does, because he allows our aging superstar with injury problems (KG) to get more rest, without there being a drop off in talent.

Still, it's an interesting comparison.

Clearly a player like Rondo will extend our window. Instead of giving the aging players rest by subbing in for them he gives them some rest by increasing leads and his contributions make things easier for them when they play. He'd be extending their careers by decreasing the contribution they need to make for the team to be successful. I haven't commented in the "how long is our window" threads, but you have to look at their production. RA went from 26 ppg in 07 to 18 last year. PP went from 25 to 20. KG went from 22 and 13 boards to 16 and 9. It would take them at least a few years to naturally decline to those production levels and it's likely that Rondo will up his production during thar time.

It's interesting to think of it like that, but I've heard Bias was often compared to Michael Jordan, only bigger and with a developed jump shot entering the league.

If that panned out, no doubt Bias extends the window, both with and without Larry and McHale. Add Lewis on top of that and yea, we could easily have maybe 5 or 6 more banners right now.

I love, love love Rondo but I don't think he's that type of player. I do think he's an all-star and I do think even with a decent team he could lead them to the playoffs, but I don't think he's going to single handedly open any other windows or keep anything open.

It doesn't matter the skill set of Bias VS Rondo, he's talking about the mere fact that there is a young star coming in for support.
