The Bucks give up a unique and talented player in Mbah a Moute, but one who is best designed to be a role player on a better team (i.e. he essentially never scores). The price for this is ridding themselves of Gadzuric’s 7.2million salary next year, and getting an excellent young player, Baby, at a position where they’re very thin.
The Celtics get an elite defender at the 3 and 4 (think Rashard Lewis), and an overpaid back-up 5, albeit one who played better last year and is still an agile defender – a key to playing in the Cs system. Gadzuric provides a little insurance behind Perk, and can be used as an expiring deal next year if we need to bring in a player.
Baby gets what he wants – starters minutes – so he agrees to the deal. Herb Kohl hates to lose Mbah a Moute, but has to face the fact that getting rid of paying Dan 7.2million out of his pocket for next year supersedes Skiles’ pleadings to keep Luc Richard. Money talks, Herb’s been losing a lot of it on the Bucks (rumors of sale or move), and The Fresh Prince ain’t selling any tickets.
I believe this deal could make sense for both teams, and just works out by a hair under BYC rules. Baby counts 1.5 going out from the Cs, so they have 6 mil going out and 7.5 coming in. Baby counts 3 coming in to the Bucks, so they have 7.5 going out and 7.5 coming in. I’d also be willing to throw in Bill Walker it if would get it done.
