I bet this is in case of an injury(maybe someone would get cut) or a 2 for 1 trade that gets done during the season.

Or they think he can be a help during practice. I know he has a relationship with KG.

Or (probably most likely): Hudson just isn't cutting it as a pg and they release him by midseason.

He'll probably learn the plays, practice with the team, and be ready toward the end of the season in case we need another point guard. Gives time for Ainge to make a 2 for 1 type deal, and have Lue in the background if needed. At least Lue will have something to do for now instead of just sitting on the bench tossing a towel.

I wonder a little about the legality of it, but we won't know the answer to that question until they attempt to sign him as a player.  My guess is the league would off-set his coaching salary against a minimum contract.

I think he's likely a backup plan. In case of injury or a multiple player trade that costs us Eddie.

Something along those lines, and of course, it's understood that someone needs to be waived/released before any of this comes to fruitition if at all.

It's an insurance move, although I suspect he may take Hudson under his wing anyway.  Wouldn't surprise me if Hudson ends up being his project.  And, if Rondo DOES get hurt, they could bite the bullet, waive someone and have someone ready to go that's about as good as any street free agent that would likely be available.

Still waiting, though, to hear the team announce that they've signed Michael Sweetney as "Team Nutritionist."

Rather impressive (and curious) title -- Director of Basketball Operations -- for an assistant coach.   Sounds more like a GM-ish title than coach -- in fact, wasn't that DA, Chris Wallace's or Dave Gavitt's title at one point?

DA was "Executive" Director of Basketball Operations; Leo Papile was "Assistant Executive" Director of Basketball Operations.

In all likelihood, the team just created a position for him.  I'm surprised they didn't slap the "Player Development" tag on him, but really, it's a title without much meaning.

News on the front page is that we added Lue to the coaching staff. Many have clamored for him as a back PG in the past 2 years. I wonder what his role will be? Is there a hidden agenda to use him as a backup?

I say he is a safety net only and if he dresses for a game this year, Danny will force the league into making a new rule about carrying extra players on the 'coaching staff'. First it was  Cassell ,now Lue.
