Will Lue ever dress for the Celtics in a regular season game?

Yes this season, dont know when
After the All Star break
Just before the playoffs
No he will just practice with the team
No he is just a coach

Didn't we do this with Dana Barros in like 2003 or 2004? He was a coach then signed to a ten day contract and played one game for us.

Obviously he's here to play, I'd have to imagine there's a trade on Danny's mind. Maybe not now, but we secure Lue for later on when it does happen. Just my thought.

He'll probably learn the plays, practice with the team, and be ready toward the end of the season in case we need another point guard. Gives time for Ainge to make a 2 for 1 type deal, and have Lue in the background if needed. At least Lue will have something to do for now instead of just sitting on the bench tossing a towel.

Yeah, I think this is right on the money.  And very very wise on Danny's part.

I think Danny just invented the 16-man team roster. Let's see if others follow suit.
True. Pretty cool.  I don't know how much Lue has left- he used to seem a lot better when he was younger, but as recently as last year quite a few people wanted him as a backup.

I really liked this story. Its a very "warming" story. Doc sees something in a guy, and promised him something, and followed through with it even in this economy. YES there might be more to the move than just giving him a chance to "coach" but Lindsay Hunter has done the same thing for Detroit and now Chicago. I doubt it's against the rules now, but as more teams catch on it might be stopped within the next decade.

Come on Ty Lue. Suit up
Can't stop, Rondo!

I wonder a little about the legality of it, but we won't know the answer to that question until they attempt to sign him as a player.  My guess is the league would off-set his coaching salary against a minimum contract.
I think he's likely a backup plan. In case of injury or a multiple player trade that costs us Eddie.

Wait, what? Why would we bundle Eddie? He's been one of the biggest contributors to the team for the last two seasons. Who would we be aiming for if we threw in Eddie?

That would be a massive loss for our team.

Hmmmm.......top half of the first round or so draft pick and younger/more versastile players for Eddie, Tony, Scal, etc. Where have I heard that before? Lots of people have been trying to trade that package or Ray for the past year or so.

I think it is too early in the season for that kind of a move. I guess Danny is leaving his options open, smart business isnt it? It could be a minor move to trade one of the young guys for a pick later on just as easily.

Right now it is just an insurance policy using one of the NBA loopholes Danny found.

Hasn't stuff like this happened before? Didn't Jordan leave the Wiz front office to play? In fact it was more difficult cause he was a part owner I think

People forget that Sam Cassell finally didn't play any minute last season. It's quite possible that the same will happen to Lue.

Well, what it's going to come down to is whether the league thinks a team is trying to circumvent the CBA / salary cap.  That wasn't the case with Jordan, and I don't think it was the case with Dana Barros.  Here, it's a little more transparent, *if* Lue is ultimately signed.

I love this picture from the Globe article:

Looks, there's Rondo, letting his man blow by him so he can try to get a steal. ;)  Then, there's Gerald, letting his man blow by him because he's a dolt.

Still waiting, though, to hear the team announce that they've signed Michael Sweetney as "Team Nutritionist."

hey, given that sweetney eats like an entire team, it makes sense. ;D

Does this mean we have no interest in either Antonio Daniels or Brent Barry, both of whom were waived today?

Both of those guys can play rings around Tyronn Lue.

Yeah but they are not best buds with KG. You know he pushed for this. Plus, there is more 'cover' because Lue played PG for Doc earlier in his career.

Perhaps they needed someone to replace Barros now that Barros is a broadcaster? Doc seems to like Lue. I've never quite understood what Barros' old position with the Celts entailed, but it is Lue's job now.

I believe he is responsible for shooting around with House's kid before games.
