Here's the link to the story on Truehoop:

He takes an interesting angle by brining up Pete Rose. So how long before the Truth is banned for life?  ;)

Man they really are hanging on to that series, it's just funny because they were a tune up and they are still thinking of themselves as an equal. Sorry Atlanta, your team is of no consequence.

Sad that losing to the eventual champs in the first round has been the high point in Atlanta basketball over the past several years....

Um, is Horford an idiot?  Isn't gambling on your sport illegal?  Ask Pete Rose.

I thought it would be more like RONDO owes Horford a closeline from hell.
Can't stop, Rondo!

I wouldn't mind that but doesn't he really owe one to his old pal Marvin Williams?

"Bret LaGree of Hoopinion, who typed up the whole exchange (originally spotted on Peachtree Hoops), says that Williams is a paragon of honesty, and it means something that he immediately seconds Horford's version of events by saying "true story.""

Really.

Supposedly Bret LaGree is a joke, and Al Horford is a huge tool. And they both owe me money. Spread the word.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Haha.  Yeah, that cracked me up.  "A random blogger said he heard this player was honest, so it must be true".

That being said, I remember something about this from when it happened.  Basically, it was all trash talk, and I doubt anybody thought it was a real bet.  This is just the media trying to stir things up.  What I won't to know is, why are the Hawks talking about it a year and a half after the fact?

Probably because the Hawks have nothingggggg to talk about and they're trying to play up this "rivalry" between a team that finished below .500 in 2008 and the team that...beat them. The one time they played a playoff series.

OHHHH SO MUCH BAD BLOOD BETWEEN THE AVERAGE AND THE EXCELLENT AHHHHH!

Here's some alleged insider info from the time, that apparently turned out to be pretty accurate:

It doesn't sound like Horford really accepted that "bet", though.

Hahahahahahaha that inside info is actually hilarious.

There's: "My heart don't pump kool-aid!"

^ To which my response is: No, it doesn't! It pumps blood! And that doesn't make you brave! Awesome, bro!

And the classic: "Don't be writing checks your azz can't cash!"

^ But I have to admit, that statement right there is pretty hardcore. Albert totally pnwed newbz with that use of cliche.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
That makes a lot of sense

And that also will be something that gets mentioned in the downward action of this whole thing.

First, we'll have something from a non-basketball analyst at ESPN that will disparage basketball, and american culture in general. Then we will have a pending investigation. Then, Harry Abbot will post that its really not a big deal, but by then people will have forgotten about it and won't care.
