R2, assuming he stays with the Celts for his entire career.

Thats like 12 years away, they'll throw someone up there before that.

Get back to me in 12 years  ;)

You don't think Pierce will get his number retired in the next 12 years? I just don't see that not happening.

It says besides paul pierce. I think the poll pretty correctly assumes 34 is headed up.

I gotta follow Roy Hobbs and say #44, Danny Ainge.

He can't deflect Wyc again after he brings yet another banner to Boston.  He deserves it and has earned it.

I'd like to see it.  I'd like it to happen so he can shove it in the faces of those that booed him on Cedric Maxwell night, when Max had his number retired.

I'm gonna guess the second Scal leaves for good 44 is going up. It'd be kind of mean to retire a number currently in use, and I think that's the reason it isn't up there yet.

and I'd love to see a big ceremony for KG, Ray, and Paul. It's always been about them since they all came together. Another championship and I think it happens, obviously Paul is going up regardless.

Then if Doc (Or was it Danny who said this?) is right, and Rondo is a Celtic for life, I think he'll play the Paul Pierce roll for awhile after the big three leave and carry us until we can build another contender.

I'd like to throw a little something into this discussion.  Besides the big 3 and rondo was has what it takes to be great.
Perk, lets say perk plays his entire career here.  10-15 years of really good defense, rebounding and close to 10 pts a game.  note: at some point when others fade he will be an offensive option, I'm of the opinion that his number would go up.  Never a great player but a really good one for a long time.
what do you think?

There's certainly precedent for that kind of a retired # for the C's - though I think he'd need to be part of a couple more championships (and if that's what it takes I'm all for it  ;) )
Yup

Does Ainge's GM success contribute to his number being retired?  Because I'm not sure it should be retired based only on his playing career.  If he played on the 90's Celtics he would be kind of forgotten about by now.  It pains me to say this, because he is my alltime least favorite Celtic, but I think Antoine Walker should have his number retired before Ainge the player.

Very true.  DJ, Reggie and Max would fit that category among the more recent number retirements.   Very critical parts of championships.  Another title or 2, continued improvement in his offense and spending about 10 years in a C's uniform could get his number retired.

I'd think that would be the rationale.

Well if that's the case I'm all for it.

Not that he's at the same level, but Red never played a game for the C's and he's up there as a GM & Coach.  Walter Brown owner...Ainge would just be a new combination platter
Yup

But if we retire Ainge's number, what number will Scal wear?
God bless and good night!

If not Ainge, then I think it will be Pierce in all honesty followed by KG.

Pierce is the only logical answer to this question.

"Question: Aside from Paul Pierce, what Celtic has the best shot at getting their number in the rafters?"
missed that.

In that case, none of the above.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
