According to real GM, Wally is holding out hope for a guaranteed deal. I guess there is some credence to the fact that it is getting harder for veterans to get a deal in this economic landscape. The article also mentions that he has lost a step or two. Not sure how many steps he had to lose

Well, Wally had a huge contract these last years. I don“t think money should be such a problem with him. Maybe he should try a non guaranteed deal if he wants to continue in the league

If he waits he'll get it.

I've been dreaming a ton lately, and i'm not even sure how i feel about this, but i had a dream last night that we offered Wally a contract, and that he agreed to be our backup scoring SF for cheap. i wouldn't neccessarily be against it now, he seemed to do a pretty decent job in his time with Cleveland...

The thing is...even though I like Wally, would he be so much an upgrade over Scal? I know Wally is more talented, but at this stage of his career all he can provide is 2 or 3 three pointers per game and not a lot of defense. Scal can provide those 3's and play some D.

That said, I wouldn't mind having Wally back

No and No, again.  Granted he looked better in Cleveland than he did in Boston, but his offense can be mitigated against, and his defense is atrocious.  He also doesn't run the open floor well or do the little things like step in and take charges.

The Celtics have enough veterans and smart players on the team.  What they need is some athleticism off the bench that doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

I'd take him back for the minimum.  He would get a ton of open looks with this team, and this would ensure that TA stays on the bench.

That's about it right there, I am not for giving Wally any more than the minimum, he needs to realize his value at his age and place. I want a back up 3 that can defend, just imagine him trying to guard Lebron.

If the NBA institutes a "Designated Free Throw Shooter," whereas you're able to use anyone on your team to be a designated FT shooter for 1 player, for the entire game (or even a half) then yes I would sign him.

Of course, I'm sure a contending team would overpay for him big time if such a rule existed.  He (along with several others) would stick around the league for another 5-7 years just doing this.

I think we've already got a guy who could do that:

Oh absolutely.  But I guess I should have clarified:  The player assigned as "designated free throw shooter cannot do anything during the game but shoot free throws."

Wally's looking for a Guaranteed Deal? Well we're still looking for Osama Bin Laden, and I doubt either of us will get what we want before the season starts.

Wally looked better in the playoffs than expected, but where would he fit on this team?  We're already lacking for roster spots.

If an opening did arise, would Wally be the first guy you'd contact?  Isn't Jerry Stackhouse still out there?  Would you take Stack or World?  If you're throwing around a guaranteed contract, isn't Bobby Jackson still sitting at home, too?

Wally doesn't hurt the team, but if a desire arose to add another grizzled veteran-type, I'd like to look at those guys first.
