The offer is Gilbert Arenas straight up for Ray Allen. Do you or don't you?

Man, I LOVE Ray-Ray ... but that would be hard to pass up!

Assuming he can get healthy once again. Certainly.

It's a very big assumption though. I would be willing to bet that Ray plays in more games than Gilbert does this year. The guy just can't stay on the floor. The more I think about it the more I think I wouldn't do it. Especially considering just this year alone. I think we are in a much better position this year with ray than if we had Gilbert just based on chemistry alone. Also Ray is an expiring contract anyway so if we wanted to we could just let him go after this year. I'm not sure what Gilberts contract is but i think it would be risky to take it on if it is a few years or beyond.

He hangs up the phone, that deal cripples any chance of resigning Rondo and there's no guarantee Arenas stays healthy.

It would definitely hinge on his being healthy ... no one's worth the money if they're not able to play ... a healthy Ray is worth a hundred injured Gilberts.

Well, I'm not merely talking about this year solely. He has a long contract, and that's what I'd be more worried about to tell you the truth.

Yeah well I guess that answers the question. He wouldn't really be an upgrade this year even if he was healthy and the length of his contract would make that trade even worse.

For me, that depends on whether or not Ray is gonna sign more years.  If it's our intention to let Ray expire and sign somewhere else, then I'd prefer to trade him now.

I like Arenas because he can provide many more years than Ray.  But I'd rather resign Ray, he'll be significantly cheaper.

If we do decide to trade Ray, I pray we can get a better option than Arenas.  I'd prefer more of a true SG if we're holding on to Rondo.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I'd consider that, and I think about starting Quis and bringing Gilbert off the bench if he would do it.  There's only one ball on the court, and I don't think there are enough touches to go around with Gilbert playing with the first unit.  On the other hand, Gilbert could run the offense with the bench, where he'd humiliate any backup guard in the league.  Also maybe, just maybe, that situation would keep him healthy.

Quis, on the other hand, has starting experience and is a good enough defender to hold his own against starting SG's.  His unselfish style would play well on our offense.  The only hitch could be that you have no jumpshot on both of your starting guards - one of them would have to take and make open jumpers to spread the floor a bit, and that may be too much to ask.

Interesting possibility, if nothing else.

Never.  If the goal is to win a championship, no way.  If we were rebuilding and wanted an Allen Iverson style player, then sure.

well he could be our backup PG!  ;D

very good topic - this is the kind of thing that I'm sure Ainge had to ponder this offseason

With health concerns and the amount of money they are paying him, I will pass on that deal.
