I love me some of this:

If you're gonna get something from Stone, go with the smoked porter.

Stone makes some great stuff.  I've had both the Arrogant Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again. & the Smoked Porter and enjoyed both.  But the AB is one of my personal favorites.  That is a fantastic ale.

I'd like to proudly announce that I'll be going to this tomorrow:

1 minor league ballpark, 4 hours, 3 friends, ~150 brewers, 300+ beers, 1 sample glass, 1 booth map, 1 complimentary pretzel necklace = good times.  Just gotta get through today...

Even though it is most likely going to rain tomorrow I will be attending Harpoons 20th Annual Octoberfest in Boston.

I recently discovered this one, and I love it:

(Strangely, I spent an entire summer in Belgium, and never tried this over there.  On the subject of Belgian beers, though, Chimay is a great choice.)
I'm with you, Roy.  Belgian Trappist Ales are by far my favorites, and it's not even close really.

Still my favorite, will probably have one tonight:

There's some batch variability, so some bottles aren't quite as good as others, but mmmm tasty.

Went on a tour of Brewery Ommegang just last weekend, an impressive place, very serious about their brewing, but small for what they put out.  The free samples were generously flowing.  Ommegang Abbey Ale was my favorite with Three Philosophers a close 2nd.
That's exactly how I rank the Ommegang beers too.  The Abbely Ale first, then Three Philosophers.  Pretty much like a less expensive version of the Belgian Trappist Ales but still quite tasty.

I had the Three Philosophers a year or so back, and it had kind of a weird quality to it...  like, I know and appreciate a good Belgian ale, but there was a bit of a harshness, maybe the hops that they had used, that I didn't really like.

So, I went back and bought a second bottle, which has been aging in the cellar for a year now.  'Bout time to break it out and see if it's mellowed out a bit.

I was inspired by this thread to get one of these. It's in my fridge right now, will be enjoying it soon.

I don't have a tulip glass, though. I hope a pint glass will suffice.

EDIT: Well, it's a heady brew. Very nice. Everything I expected from a Belgian ale: slightly herbal, spiced, yeasty. Surprised by the dryness and effervescence of it, though; it reminded me a little bit of champagne in that respect.

And it's got a kick to it. Was definitely buzzed by the time I got 2/3 through it. Thanks for the suggestion, FWF. Looking forward to a report from today's festivities, and perhaps another suggestion.

Hypothetically, If I were to admit to underage drinking, would that have any repercussions? Hypothetically, of course. :P ;D

That's great, I'm glad you liked it!  The tulip glass is pretty much just the "recommended" way to drink, but it doesn't make a huge difference, heck I just drink it out of the bottle when I'm lazy.

Beer festival was a lot of fun, though quite a few of my favorite brewers skipped it this year, presumably because of the economy.  Drank my fill, went to an interesting tasting event that paired beers with chocolates (GF's idea), and thanks to pregaming with Gatorade and Advil, had virtually no hangover the next day.

Most of my favorites there I'd had before, but the best beers I hadn't tried were probably:

and

Both domestic versions of Euro styles, both very, very good - I was especially impressed with the Sammy, I like Sammy fine but have never been wowed by them before.  Imperial stout is tough to pull off and they did a great job.  I think it's about 9.5% too, but didn't taste particularly strong.

My doctor told me I had to stay away from beer, so I did what any reasonable man would do.

I got a new doctor.

As soon as the new meds kick in, I'll be looking for one of these:
