The whole point of this thread was not to bash Eddie House. I like Eddie but I think that as time goes on we will eventually, sooner than later, replace him with a young and/or cheaper player. It is possible that player is Lester Hudson or one similar to him. When that day comes, why not trade him and get good value for him if we dont have the roster spot or if we get a chance to upgrade the team?
Eddie House definitely has an important role on the Celtics. I dont agree he cannot be replaced. From a business standpoint if you have another player who duplicates his role and does it for less money, you replace him.
I agree Eddie is a great guy, but I dont think he is a 'glue guy' that is necessary in the locker room. I know he is a very good 3 pt shooter and can usually be relied upon to score off the bench when you need it. Even having the occaisional 20 pt outburst is good as well.
Eddie is however a problem for the Celtics because of his packaging. He has a PG sized body with a SG quality jump shot. He plays average defense against PG and below average against SG because of his height. We are constantly scheming to get Eddie in a position to be a shooter on the wing. Ideally this means someone other than Eddie is handling the ball or initiating the offense.
I believe that when the day comes the Celtics can acquire a defensive stopper at PG that can knock down an open jumper, Eddie will become expendable or a 3rd PG at best. If we have the roster space Eddie will stay as a designated 3pt shooter, but his salary will not be quite as high IMO. He has already experienced this situation before. Not his fault I agree, but reality. This is why he hasnt stuck for long or found a home on another team.
