Ya, this was my first ever NFL game, after being a lifelong pats fan so it was pretty awesome.  But ya you bring up a good point about illegal contact.  Wasnt that  put in after the playoffs when Manning completed more passes to Ty Law than Marvin Harrison?
Yup.

Congrats on your first game! I just saw my first Bears win in person.

I actually saw the Pats play the Steelers in Pittsburgh during one of the title years.

I would have given anything to see the game at Pitt in 2001.  The AFC championship game where Kordell Stewert was complaining about his superbowl reservations, and Brady got hurt.  Bledsoe comes off the bench and plays amazing.  I would have given anything to be a fly on the wall there.

Yeah, that would have been a great game to see in person.  As it was, i saw it in Boston, on a crappy TV, with a good friend of mine who happened to be a Steelers fan.  He left the room quickly after the game to avoid crying. Seriously.

Hey the Rules are in there.  It cost us the jets game, and contributed to a win here.  The penalties were correctly called.  However as a fan of a team with a talented quarterback, im in favor of the rules.
To point fingers at the other team for doing the exact same thing, your owner did seems myopic.

Oh well, the Pats were the better team yesterday. Every team deals with BS penalties.

They aren't BS penalties though fafnir, they are in the rule book now, and we're called correctly, just like the one on our defensive linemen (can't remember who, in the 2nd quarter) for making contact with flacco above the shoulder on a tackle.

I hate them (the penalties) and cringe when we get called for them, but those ARE the rules now. Even the slight contact made on those hits to brady's face are more than enough for the new rule the NFL has in place.

I disagree that all of those calls were correct. The one where he got tapped in the leg was silly.

Not only that but the NFL doesn't call things strictly "by the book". Take a look at the holding rule. How many times do you see a d-lineman dragged to the ground by his jersey or pads without a call?

That call was 100% correct, and he will be getting fined for it.  he had time to avoid Brady (who had already gotten rid of the ball) and he still 'lunged/fell' with his arm extended towards Brady's knees.   Wilfork got a penalty for this at the beginning of the year (or last year? against the bills?)

You cant go low on the qb.  period.

I agree, however because this is a new and sensitive rule it is being regulated very closely I think.  I think if an official misses a late hit on a QB they are definitly going to get a harsh talking to after the game whereas a missed holding call probably not.  And also the refs went out to training camps this year just to check in with teams on exactly what they can and cannot do with regard to the QB.  So I think they are really trying to go by the books here.

False.  Manning never completed more passes to Ty Law than he did to Marvin Harrison in the playoffs.  In the 2 playoff games Manning played against Law 1/6/07 & 1/18/04, Ty had 5 interceptions off of Manning and Harrison had 5 catches from Manning.   5=5.

Just to clarify it was 2 & 2, & 3 & 3.   So there hasn't even been one playoff game where Manning completed more passes to Ty Law than Marvin Harrison, individually or for his career.

Cool.  Well if I was in there I would have intercepted more than were completed to Harrison.  Law is a fundamentally flawed player.

Maroney claims that he gets it.  We will wait and see.

From the Globe,

"It’s never one of those things where I think the fans dislike me or don’t want me to be a running back here no more,’’ said Maroney. “I look at it as they want me to do good and they expect more from me, and that’s basically what they’re letting me know. They expect more, and I have to give them more.’’

Maroney vowed to use the displeasure voiced by the fans as motivation.

“I’ll take it as my way of saying, ‘I hear you,’ ’’ said Maroney. “I hear the cries, and I will deliver.’’

I don't know if someone posted this already but I heard somewhere that Jerod Mayo practiced yesterday.  He was wearing a knee brace but was on the field.

Randy moss sat out the practice.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a chance to prove it. Fred Taylor is banged up, which might make Maroney the primary back. The Broncos have a very good secondary which makes it hard to throw the ball, and they blitz a lot. One of the best ways to neutralize the blitz is to run right at it (or by it rather)once Maroney get past the first blitzing level he could be off to the races.

That would be interesting
(no need to rush him back, though).
