or when will there be a presser!

I would continue to check Celtics.com.  They will likely post it there as soon as it is announced.  And I am sure that if anyone hears it here, they will post it immediately, so the constant refrain is not really necessary.

If this ends up being a 2 year deal guaranteed, I don't know what Danny was waiting for, and the more reason not to have made this a sign and trade.

The main motivation of a sign and trade was to unload salary and create a roster slot or two.

The main motivation was to give him a higher salary and lock him up for a few years while keeping the LLE availble.

I think these were both main motivations.  I think Danny REALLY wanted to unload Tony's contract in this deal, because that is $5 million extra they are paying now.  But on a basketball side, I am sure he also really wanted to keep the LLE available and lock up Daniels a little longer.

From all indications it appears that Daniels did indeed sign for just one year. I never would have figured that Danny would give up hiss LLE for just one year contract for a 2nd player off the bench type player. So I will admit that I was wrong and give TP's to Budweiser, Fafnir and the others that claimed there was no way he would sign for 2 years guaranteed. Good job guys.

I think the problem of your analysis was first I think you're undervaluing Daniels as a player, including his capability to get better offers out there (and it seems it was the case from recent reports). Secondly, overvaluing the LLE... particularly given that Danny hasn't used in the last couple of years. Because of these, you started thinking that Danny was in the driving seat, when he really wasn't.

Daniels for 2 million is a complete bargain, it was a real steal from us.

He is not a "2nd player off the bench type of player". He could be a starter or a 6th man in many teams around the league, we just so happen to have 2 of the best wings in the league in our roster. He'll be the first wing off the bench, and that's how he should be looked at. And 2 million for that type of player is great.

We'll see. I think he's going to be a great fit for us. He's a big guard and athletic, something we've really missed in the last two years.

You are right in thinking that I'm not the biggest believer of his game. I see a more in control Tony Allen with less defensive ability. I don't think we are overpaying him so much as Indiana or whoever signed him to that last contract severely overpaid for his services and we are getting him for about what he is worth.

I will say I've been proven wrong and admitted I was once already and would love nothing more than to be wrong again and have him prove that he is worth multi-millions dollars more than what we paid for him as we cruise to an 18th banner. Good call on the one year and you're probably right about everything. But I've never been a huge fan of shooting guards who's main ability is to go to the basket because they aren't good shooters. Just a philosophical pet peeve that's like running fingers down a chalkboard for me.

I think we should just be happy that we have him.  He's a guy who was a big part of Dallas's near-title run a few years ago.  Last year we were trying to backup the 2/3 spots with guys who arguably don't belong in the NBA.  Now we have a guy who has started on mediocre teams and been a rotation player on a championship caliber team (and he did start at times for Dallas).

We can quibble about how well he fits and what not, but the very fact that he's dramatically better than Allen, Walker, and Giddens is an upgrade over last year.

And since--as someone else already said--we have two of the better wings in the league and they will play a bunch of minutes, come playoff time when they're playing 35+, he really should be able to play all the backup 2/3 minutes.

So he really does solve a ton of problems for the C's.
