With college football starting Saturday, it's hard for me to cheer for anybody from Auburn in anything, but I am thrilled that we have him and that this is over.

The Celtics break down all barriers.  Roll Tide!

ROLLLLLLLL TIIIIIIIDDDDDDEEEEEEE!!!!!

No seriously I don't really care, but its such an awesome cheer.
ARE YOU READY?

HELL YEAH!

[dang] RIGHT!

HOTTY TODDY/ GOSH ALMIGHTY/ WHO THE HELL ARE WE?/ FLIM FLAM/ BIM BAM/ OLE MISS BY [dang]!
The Rebs.  Is there a better coaches name out there than Houston Nutt?  The man needs no nickname.

By the way, are we giving Marquis a nickname?  How about "The 3 Month Wait"?   ;)

Truth about Houston. Although it has lead to some weird moments where fathers will let their young daughters come to games with shirts that have various plays on the word Nut. Awkward.

According to the Boston Globe :

Quote
Marquis Daniels has signed with the Celtics, who are expected to make an announcement on Tuesday, according to a league source.

Daniels will earn a one-year biannual exception contract worth $1.99 million. The Celtics had attempted to increase Daniels' salary with a sign and trade deal.

I'm glad that this story is going to end but I'm really disappointed that we have Daniels for only one year... the search for a backup wing will continue next summer.
Depends on a lot of things, if we win a title and he's a big part of it he'll probably want to get paid like Posey. But you never know what will happen.

Remember all the Powe/BBD predictions throughout last year, especially after KG's injury. You can't project that far into the future.
True but Big Baby did get just about what everyone expected him to get which was right around $3 million and if Powe didn't get hurt and played in the playoffs, he might have gotten close to an MLE contract. Portland would definitely have thrown money at Powe if he was healthy.

So I don't think it's unreasonable to say that Daniels is probably only here a year given that because of salary cap restrictions the best offer he can possibly(realistically) get from the Celtics would be a 4 year/$11 million deal. And he wouldn't even have to average 14 PPG to do better than that with the exposure he'll get.

If Powe was healthy, he would've been restricted. Baby was restricted, which deflated his value a bit. This year in particular, on the eve of one if not the most anticipated free-agency class in NBA history made it quite hard for players to find contracts at the expected value. This was particularly important for players seeking multi-year contracts, and restricted free-agents can only get offer sheets for multi year contracts.

I think that will change next year, once the big names come off the board and everyone notices that they've been planning for nothing.
Tell that to Marcin Gortat, Jarrett Jack, and Paul Milsap.

If Powe had remained healthy, I have every confidence in the world that Orlando does not beat Boston, Powe would have shined and that he would have ended up signing with what was originally being expected last summer, that being somewhere in the $4-6 million a year range.

Can be for 2 years at most, as it's the LLE.

Some expections, as there always have been. Not saying that Powe wouldn't have gotten it, but it's not a sure thing either because of his restricted status. The problem is not that some got paid, the problem is that teams that were willing to pay period were on extremely limited supply this year.

Where's David Lee at? Nate Robinson? Reymond Felton? Ramon Sessions? CJ Watson? Linas Kleiza?

If not mistaken, historically if you wanted a restricted free-agent, you would have to overpay. Toronto might've gotten a bit lucky that the Pacers have a high incentive in not paying luxury tax this year, so Jarrett Jack was a good choice for them. Paul Milsap has turned out to be a [dang]ed good player and so has Marcin Gortat. With the offer Marcin got, there was a really good chance Orlando wouldn't match. If the vibe around the league was the Orlando would match, as the Celtics did with Baby, I'm not so sure Marcin would've gotten that offer. Orlando kinda shot themselves in the foot.

Why are you glad the story is over?

We were never gonna loose Quis, we were trying to save money for the vet PG everyones talking about needing. I think we shouldn't give up on the S&T until the day before training camp. Now we have to trade to get the veteran PG, plus Marquis is now only locked up for one year.

;D

Yeah, the mods had to put the kaibosh on people trying to link to the poor girl's facebook page.  One of the most bizarre moments of last year.  Of course, this happened during my exhile until KG stepped foot back on the court.  And yes, streetclothes counted.   ;)

If he helps us get #18, I couldn't care less.

Obviously it's not ideal, but he's the kind of player we needed, so it's good we got 'im.
